Olivia Newton-John is putting her U.S. and Canadian tour on hold after discovering she has cancer, the singer announced on Facebook Tuesday afternoon.

Doctors have diagnosed the star, 68, with breast cancer that has metastasized to the sacrum, according to the statement. The star initially postponed the first half of her concert tour two weeks ago because of severe back pain from what she thought was sciatica; however, further tests discovered it was actually cancer that spread.

“She plans to be touring in August. They’re all very positive,” a source close to the Grammy winner told PEOPLE on Tuesday about Newton-John and her family.

She beat breast cancer back in 1992.

My mom had a double mastectomy back around 1966 and finally lost her battle to bone cancer in 1978 at the age of 53..

This pic looks about as recent as any. Maybe from Japan. I have a ticket for an October show I just bought a couple of weeks ago.

We're ALL older, fatter, uglier, slower, blinder, deafer etc., etc. and it is inevitable that our famous and beloved peer group (of sorts) will exhibit similar features and maladies.

I'm learning here in FreeRepublic, that I am in another family, similar to my church family ....

Known y'all for years n' never set eyes on ya' .... but love ya' anyway.

I think MY awakening was some pictures of Annette Funicello just before she died.

Very sad ... and real.

I think a lot of us spent a lot of time in front of fantasyland more than we like to admit.

Father, have mercy On Olivia, in Jesus' name, Amen

Lost my first wife to kidney cancer which went undetected until it had taken over virtually all of her lungs.

Kidney cancer is a hard one to catch. I had an aortic dissection last summer, and when they did the first scan they found a one-inch tumor on my right kidney. Aortic dissections aren't very nice, but this one probably saved my life.

My mom had great cancer that metasticized into her back and then eventually a brain tumor....which killed her. I'm coming up 9 years clean after being diagnosed in 2008. 😍

I saw her in concert in the mid 70’s, she was really hot in white cheek shorts. Beautiful voice too.

It's my understanding that when you "beat" cancer, you've only bought yourself some time before it comes back and stays.

That's how it was for my dad. Cancer started small, chemo and radiation treatments, docs pronounced him cancer-free. A couple years later it came back a little more severe. More treatment, cancer-free. Went on this way for a decade. Fought cancer, cancer-free for a few months, then it returned stronger, more spread out. Eventually it spread to his brain and that was that. Killed him at 68. He never smoked, drank or was overweight.

I figure ONJ has a year or so left, at best. My dad knew this as well and did his best to make every minute count. That's the one thing about cancer; it allows you get your affairs in order.

After 25 years..that’s a long time. I doubt it’s from the same clone as the original cancer. Whatever caused the original mutation could have caused it a second time independently of the first , or maybe it was a mutation she was born with that made her susceptible. A cytogenetic analysis would tell.

All I can say is I wish her good luck and I hope whatever treatment she’s receiving will eliminate that disease once and for all.
