Trump base shows signs of cracking

President Trump's previously resilient base is showing signs of cracking.

A new Reuters/IPSOS tracking poll, released Friday afternoon, showed the president with a job approval rating of 75 percent among Republicans.

Political professionals generally view it as worrying for any commander-in-chief if his approval ratings with his own party dip below 85 percent - and downright alarming if they go below 80 percent.

"Seventy-five [percent] is certainly a new number and I would want to see something that would either back that up or refute it," said GOP pollster David Winston, whose resumé includes work for former Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Ga.). "Certainly, if it were true, that is not where you would want to be."

I thought this quote from me a few weeks ago on another thread might be appropriate now more than ever...

“Stand shoulder to shoulder with him in the breach on a daily basis...trust his instincts and his judgement and never ever underestimate him.”

I dont think Trump ever cracked 80% support with Republican voters. There still are a sizable chunk of Romney type Republicans who would never support Trump.

The Hill are bigger swine and liars than CNN. That takes a big effort.

Bill Clinton was guilty of so many offenses during his presidency that it boggles the mind. He was personally, politically, and financially corrupt. It would be difficult to name breaches of ethics that he didn't commit. The press at the time ignored all of it until they had no choice. Then they became his advocate. After Clinton, I vowed that I would NEVER give a crap about any 'scandal' that the media tried to bludgeon a Republican president with. I mean, If Bill Clinton is the standard....

Corker sent me an email stating he could not back Trump’s budget. I replied. I refuse to vote for you and those like you.

The only thing the nonstop media assault has done to the Trump supporters is make them even more supportive of hearing “Your Fired” throughout the halls of DC. Trumps biggest criticism is he needs to start cleaning out the swamp and quit being nice.

Now they are even speaking for us! I take offense that they can assume such about we who they do not know... they have not known us for years... and they sure don’t know us now... they don’t know why we voted for Trump and so they don’t know what would make us “crack”. I am not cracking... the GOP has for a long time.. it that’s who they are talking about... but the GOP definitely is not Trump’s base. I’m sure it’s we conservative (us conservative for the English correcting lot)... and it ain’t happening! There is no one else after we got the best.

Correct. We already knew that many Republicans were "never-Trumpers" so if Trump has a 75% approval rate among them, that's pretty astounding.

A very large amount of Trump voters came from disaffected Democrats and also those who had pretty much dropped out of the political process and given up on America.

I'll say this, the Republican Party left me this election cycle. I will never call myself a Republican again. The Republican Party has shown me that they are no different than Democrats.

I think not. Met with a group of ~10 this morning and all commented that they have turned off the news/don’t believe it.

I added I don’t even believe the weather forecast.

Oh, there is a big difference. The Dems lie and collude and fight dirty to protect what they want. Republicans are spineless.

I dont think Trump ever cracked 80% support with Republican voters.

Donald Trump was was far over 80% with Republican voters on November 8. Over 90%, actually. For whatever reason, they "came home".

That's what helped him win was his ability to get 90% of Republicans to vote for him.

I see no reason for any significant percentage of the voters to have any taste for the criminal coup that the Democrats—and Swamp-dweller Republicans—are trying to pull off against President Trump.

The Swamp-slime Democrats and Media (but I repeat myself)—not to mention the SwampGOP—will fail. Miserably. And there's going to be a lot of clenched jaws on our side until they do fail. But they have nothing. Don't forget that. That's not going to change.

Problem for the pollsters is that the small percentage of Republicans who are wavering on Trump are doing so because they believe he hasn’t gotten enough of what he promised done yet vs. the rest of the country who hate him because he’s just so icky and nasty - given the choice of Trump and any ‘rat who might ever run against him, he’d still win in a walk.....

I have NEVER been contacted by a pollster. I truly believe 99% of “polls” are made up nonsense.

The establishment republicans (and that’s most of them) are in the Washington elite club right along with the democrats. They would rather vote with the dems than to back Trump... and that’s pitiful! I am hearing NOTHING from the republicans this week backing our President! If they stood side by side and let everyone know they are behind the President... If they did that every day, it would put a dent in the dems’s armor. IF they stood behind the one we voted for in November... the republican party candidate... he’d not be out there alone with the arrows pointed right at him. If there is any cracking going on, it’s the crack in the republican party that is losing us out here due to their same lack of fight. They don’t want Trump as their President .. We voted ... we saw the deep swamp in Washington.. . and that swamp is still there.. working against our vote.

And it’s a shame to see the Saudi King and government treat our American President better than the American press or the American political parties! God help us!!
