A 6-month-old from Hawaii was mauled to death Monday by her family's pit bull.
Layla Tsuda, who said she was with the girl, told KHON-TV that the baby was playing in a baby walker inside their home in northwest Las Vegas valley when she was attacked.
Tsuda reportedly went to the bathroom and when she came back she found the dog mauling the girl. Tsuda was able to stop the attack, but the baby already suffered major injuries, according to KTNV.
The child was rushed to the hospital where she died.

Same here. My son and DIL have a sweet chocolate lab, but I don't trust him alone with the babies. I've seen him violently shake his toys and I worry about him perceiving a baby as just another squeak toy.
As to pit bulls, I don't trust them around anyone, including adults, as I knew a woman pit bull owner (one of the "it all depends on how they're raised" crowd) whose "loving" dog attacked her. I think of pit bulls as a bomb waiting to go off - jostle it a little and boom.
Exterminate the owners
When we were looking for a dog, almost all the canines at the local shelter were pit bull mixes. Finally found a puppy at a small no-kill shelter. But the city shelter would be able to do a lot more good if they put down pit bulls in short order.
“What is it about pit bulls that they attract so many lousy owners?”
That would be their lethal appearance. My middle-aged neighbor lady, a widow, has a small one, that looks like a fire ant. Skinny, with an outsized head. I hate that thing, the way it looks at me and lunges at my dog. Maybe it makes her feel safe. Maybe she loves it because it loves only her.
When they attack, they rip and destroy. They go for the lower jaw and try to tear it off the head. No baby could survive that.
Mind you, my cousin is quadriplegic, and has kept as many as four pits at a time, because she lives in a bad neighborhood, and she loves those dogs, and never had any problems.
Here's what I'd like to see:
Date of Incident | #Killed/Mauled | Breed |
---|---|---|
1 Jan | Mauled:1 | Pit Bull |
2 Jan | Killed:5 | Chihuahua |
Anyway, something like that, with maybe more data, such as Town/State, dwelling/outside, On leash/Roaming/Confined in home/yard, Age of victim, etc., etc.
Ridiculous, I wouldn’t even leave my mini doxie alone with a little one, much less one of my very young grandchildren. Their aggressive and don’t like anything new taking attention away from them. Now my golden I would leave with any age child. It is the breed, not the ownership or training.
We have a cat I would not trust alone with a baby...he’s attacked me! I do not understand the desire to have a pitbull..they LOOK mean.
Jeez. How sleazy of them.
While I love dogs, always glad to have my concealed carry handy when a pit bull is near me or my kids.
Never heard of a Chihuahua or Golden Retriever killing someone. And I am pretty sure I haven’t heard from it because it is extremely rare, of that I have zero doubt.
Though, your example is pretty funny!
Maybe not so far off the mark in the first place. Adults should automatically be charged with assault and murder for the actions of their animals. Zero tolerance. This is no different than if they killed the kid with their own hands directly.
I remember going in to a Petco store during "Pet Adoption Day". All the dogs were pit bulls. I agree with eradicating stray pit bulls. By the time they're homeless, there's no telling how feral they are, and if there were bred from violent stock. The Bell Curve applies to dogs as well as humans.
I have no sympathy for Chihuahuas. Last dog I was bitten by was one. But these nasty ankle-biters are in class of their own, pit bulls are killers and people that own them should be labeled as such as well.
The dog of choice for drug dealers and losers.
“We have a cat I would not trust alone with a baby...”
You gone and done it now. And you thought pit bull owners were defensive!
Seriously...my fuzzy one waits on the end of the bed until I’m out of the shower and then whines until I walk over and let her attack me with claws and teeth. Fresh meat, I guess. It’s a game for her, but I see just how “enthusiastic” she can be about the attack part. I generally have to break off contact because she really gets wound up.
Why are shelters FULL of weaponized dog breeds? It is time to start the process of eradication. These weaponized breeds do not need a 2nd home in the hope that they might be okay... perhaps, maybe, cross your fingers...
To state the obvious, supposing their dog killed someone else's child? No insurance either I suspect.
In my neck of the woods, most any cop will tell you, "Smell the meth cooking, there you find the Pit-bulls."
fatalpitbullattacks.com and dogsbite.org have pretty good info. May have some of what you seek. Be advised it is not very pleasant material...
Sounds like you both need to call Jackson Galaxy! PRONTO!
