U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein are interviewing candidates to take over the FBI as interim director, after James Comey's firing Tuesday.
Four candidates are being interviewed today, fielded from senior FBI and Justice Department officials and the heads of FBI field offices across the country, according to a Justice Department official.
The four candidates: FBI Executive Assistant Director Paul Abbate, who leads the agencys cyber and criminal branch; National Counterintelligence Executive William Evanina; Special Agent Adam Lee, who runs the Richmond field office; and Special Agent Michael Anderson, who runs the Chicago field office. A new FBI director is expected to be chosen and announced within the next 24 to 48 hours.

How long can an interim director serve?
Can be fired easy, right?
Get a real firebrand in there and clean up.
Might cause the Senate to approve an appointee if they think he would be ‘more reasonable’ than the firebrand.
Or leave firebrand in there as long as they are going to stall.
And if he screws up, or isn’t tough enough - You’re Fired! Then get another interim.
Clint Eastwood.
And not for the interim - for the permanent. lol
the Senate goes on leave over Memorial Day. Appoint an interim for 1 year then.
Interim serves until the replacement is nominated, cleared by the Senate, and appointed. Can be fired very easily, yes. As AndrewJackson pointed out, the president has a limited menu to choose from for this purpose, but he is not stuck with the normal chain of command replacement (McCabe in this case).
That’s why I want Sheriff Clarke. No he doesn’t have Federal experience, which is exactly why he should be made director. Trey Gowdy? Gimme a break, he’s wasted every opportunity he’s had and he’s a prosecutor, not an investigator. How about a real lawman? Not to mention, a real MAN?

Acting Director and Interim Director can serve as long as Congress and the Prez allow. After Hoover died, the Acting Director served about a year.
Interviews are probably just to insult McCabe, or an indication that President Trump expects a long fight over a permanent Director.
Maybe another Elliot Ness...
Hopefully for the permanent replacement they will find a career law enforcement guy instead of some hack lawyer/politician
Comey covered up for Obama,Hillary,Loretta Lynch and Eric Holder. Remember Fast and Furious, The IRS debacle and the V.A. cover up that caused no telling how many vets to die uselessly.Just look at Hillary selling Russia Uranium. Folks the Democrat Party is doing all of this to blackmail Republicans into not getting to the truth. I say without a doubt the Democrat Party in my opinion is very corrupt and they are run out of New York,Chicago,LA and San Fran. The rest of the country pays for their evil doing. You will also notice Northern Virginia and Maryland closely tied in with the New England States. The rest of the country gets screwed. Please look at this objectively not along party lines or folks you like. The truth is there to see if you are not looking into a Smoke Screen.
Best news I’ve heard today...apart from the weeping and knashing of teeth from the left that is.
Clark is a Democrat from a failed Democrat controlled municipality with lots of political baggage.
Other than that he’d be a huge loss to Milwaukee county and a very big win for the Democrats who would appoint some political yokel hack to fill in until the next election.
That appointment would be a big help in spreading inner city crime outward - more deadly drugs, murder by the dozen, more gangs, more car thefts and so on.
Hopefully not the guy from Virginia.
It amounts to the same thing. The deputy director automatically assumes the position as acting director and it takes positive action by the President to make it happen otherwise.
Looks like the President is able to appoint an “interim director” without Senate confirmation as long as the appointee is at a certain level of the FBI. If anybody here knows the rules, please enlighten the rest of us. The same thing appeared to happen at DOJ when the female was fired. At least, looks like McCabe is on his way out and is nothing but a place holder.
“...and has actually drained a swamp at NOLA.”
If you mean political, no.
