Honors students at Clemson University are contemplating whether to follow in Yales footsteps by removing the name Calhoun from their school.
A survey that was recently emailed to students in Clemsons Calhoun Honors College poses a series of questions about former U.S. Vice President John C. Calhoun, the colleges namesake, starting with whether they had ever given any thought to the significance of the name.

Hey, idiots at Clemson: You can’t judge a guy from the 1800s by 21st Century Standards. Morons.
I hope they have to pay the Calhoun family for all the donations they made
“Honors students”
Clearly the title means nothing.
Just Give the Calhoun family the Clemson land back to them
“Kunta Kinte College”
We have a Lake Calhoun, here, in Minnesota that they are in the process of renaming.
Clearly the title means nothing.

Sort of like the ‘counter attack’ on
MY SON-DAUGHTER(or whatever decides to wear today) is an ‘Honor Student at West Podunk Hi’
MY KID CAN BEAT THE SNOT OUT OF YOUR HONOR STUDENT KID
(Or something like that)
Here in Minneapolis strong effort to change name of Lake Calhoun. Am surprised hasn’t happened yet.
Rory Calhoun?
Judgment isn’t really the consideration. It is erasure of history. To start with the students know no history because it was downplayed and not even taught in K-12. All they know is that the Communists tell them that this name or that name represents slavery and and/or is offensive. History is deemed antiprogressive because it demonstrates through many eras and movements that the goals and stated ideals of socialism in all its iterations is destructive to societies and benefits only a tiny and forever shrinking ruling class that owns everything. The ruling class must shrink continually because the material resources of a socialist society shrink continually and when you own everything there is a continually diminishing amount of treasure to share. Students know none of that because they are carefully insulated from History.
It does not say much for the intellect of Clemson "honor" students, if their way of seeking attention is to trash a proud heritage--not much at all. Even the very "liberal" John F. Kennedy, honored Calhoun as one of America's greatest Senators in his Profiles In Courage.
Calhoun on “Amoss and Andy”? I guess the younger generation identifies more with “Anus and Andy”.
I always thought it was to honor Algonquin J. Calhoun, a somewhat crooked lawyer!
Lawdy me, don’t say I’m wrong!
Hic iacet Arthurus, rex quondam, rexque futurus.
Totally agree with you, but it does not negate what I said about judging historical personages.
They really NEED Arthurus now in Britain - more than ever.
Do you think these college students will ever figure out that all the Slave Owners they are trying to eradicate from History were DEMONRATS???
“Despite his wrong position on slavery, John C. Calhoun was one of the more keen observers of government in the 19th century. Almost 200 years ago, he noted that the most significant flaw in our system of government was the Supreme Court. Among other things, he had no use for the 1803 Marbury v. Madison decision because he believed it granted excessive power to the Supreme Court.
“Even though the Constitution separated powers between the legislative, executive and judicial branches, Calhoun correctly foresaw the possibility of extreme ideologues on the court writing laws to suit their personal preferences rather than doing their sworn duty, which is interpreting the Constitution and the laws enacted by the legislature.”

Settle down folks. This tiny group of misguided students will achieve the same result as they did earlier when they tried to get the administration to rename Tillman Hall. They had a brief little sit-in, then dispersed. The administration considered their demands and said, “Um, no.”
Case closed.
