Trump: US ‘Needs A Good Shutdown’

President Trump on Tuesday called for a "good shutdown" in September to fix the "mess” in government.

"The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We … either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good "shutdown" in September to fix mess!" he wrote in a series of tweets.

It needs more than a showdown, whatever the end, because the current state of affairs is never going to improve.

I commend you, and I join you.

No man is perfect, but President Trump has tried to follow through on his promises.

He has requested bids on the wall, and is following through as best he can.

Congress is toying with destruction, and IMO it won’t be Trump who pays.

Folks are damned tired of watching Congress screw this nation over.

You are correcto!

All in good time. And now that Trump has signaled 5 months ahead that he’s going to take action, it puts every one on notice: GOPe and Dem alike — make a deal or else.

“B) Trump already threatened a shutdown and to roll over to a Democrat-style CR instead means he will have zero credibility or will for such a shutdown 5 months from now.”

9YearLurker supplied this link in support of the above statement:

http://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-budget-exclusive-idUSKBN17U0A0

The link had this quote, which I thought was the most relevant:

“Trump said a shutdown would be a “very negative thing” but that his administration was prepared if it was necessary.”

The quote is hardly a threat to shut down the government over this budget. Clearly, Trump did not think a shutdown was necessary at this time.

There may be a more specific quote out there, but it seems unlikely. I do not see that he threatened a shutdown, then backed off. This is just part of his negotiation - strategic plan.

Let’s see what it looks like after a year. Right now, I do not see any reason to panic or doubt him.

I think Trump understands the importance of a shutdown, to use as a tool to take that weapon away from Democrats. He is setting up the battlespace, making sure that he wins the battle. He does not even have all his appointees in place yet.

Now he is signaling that the battle will happen in September.

Cool image, HL! Never, never, never. How often have we heard those words in the last 22 months! Never underestimate Trump. You can bet he's got a plan. Remember too, he's unpredictable. And he's also firm. Syria learned the lesson.

The Eagle Struck.

The Lion will Roar!

Would not call you a Never Trumper FRiend, but beware they’re are Cruzlims among us.

To your point, there’s a rough patch wading through the swamp. The votes are as I’ve heard almost there but not quite on another ObamaCare action.

Don’t be surprised if there is a split on the Freedom Caucus. I wouldn’t be as they are Congress critters with strings pulled by financiers.

It is what it is. Darn swamp.

The insistence on a veto to nowhere is mind boggling.
I say this with all due respect and love for kitty.

So if President Trump can’t win on every single thing, every single day, the Administration is “over.”

Well, moving on the grownups have a swamp to drain.

Hey pal, enough with the ignorant insults.

That was Trump, yes, threatening a shutdown before the “deal” was made.

If this helps you to comprehend the dynamic of the last two weeks, here’s another link spelling out how he backed off from his original position re: a shutdown unless the wall got funding:

http://www.foxbusiness.com/politics/2017/04/25/trumps-concession-on-wall-funding-removes-obstacle-from-spending-talks.html

And if that doesn’t make it clear enough to you, you’re on my own—I’m done after this childish posting of inaccurate insults broadcast to “all”.

“He can simply choose not to spend money even if it’s budgeted right?”

Well in theory but in practice people who head groups, divisions and departments spend everything before the clock runs out.

Not sure how that decades long DC practice is phased out. We’ll see I guess.

The next round needs to permanently end funding for Planned Parenthood.

This round should have.

There are no valid excuses for not doing so.

No. Shutdowns are always a bad idea, no matter who proposes them.

I supported Candidate Trump 100% and I’m supporting President Trump 100%...I am NOT however ‘pearl clutching and couch fainting’ like I am seeing lately...

I agree, the sky is falling mentality towards President Trump is unwarranted.

Our corrupt media and their culture is playing Americans again with focusing this on President Trump, when the focus for such a bad deal falls all on Paul Ryan, Mitch McConnell and all the obstructing RINO's in congress.

Americans need to stop giving our corrupt media any credibility and work to help our President get his, and the American people's agenda, done.

Today’s White House Briefing with Mulvaney and Kelly...it explains that IF bami would have had a budget in place, NONE of the wall or military money would have been here today...the Dems. wanted a shutdown to destroy President Trump and they didn’t get one...that is also explained here...the Dems have lied to their base...President Trump and his people are working for America and Her People...

You are right with your analysis. Also, this is Obama’s 2016/17 budget. Trump's budget starts later this year. But this is not a good sigh, hence, Trump's Government Shut Down beginning October 1, 2017.

Hey pal, enough with the ignorant insults.

If I had posted an ignorant insult, I suppose I could apologize. But I do not see where I posted any insult at all.

Maybe you have my post confused with another?
