EXCLUSIVE: Trump to stick with conservative list for next Supreme Court pick
The Washington Times ^ | Steven Dinan

Posted on 04/30/2017 7:19:34 PM PDT by ForYourChildren

President Trump will stick with the same list of potential nominees for the next Supreme Court vacancy, he told The Washington Times in an exclusive interview in which he also waved aside the lack of a honeymoon from Capitol Hill, saying Republicans are “going to get there” and Democrats are still smarting over losing an election they thought they couldn’t lose.

..

He also said he expects the near-universal opposition to his agenda from congressional Democrats to wane.

“I notice it calming down,” he said.

Reflecting on his first weeks, the businessman turned statesman took pride in having upended traditional procedures in Washington. He said he has already notched foreign policy successes that eluded Mr. Obama — such as the release of Egyptian-American charity worker Aya Hijazi from detention in Egypt — and has made his mark at home with the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Neil Gorsuch.

“You’ll have hundreds of cases decided by 5-4, and you got that. So that’s a great legacy,” the president said, noting that at 49, Justice Gorsuch has decades of important decisions ahead of him.

Mr. Trump shook the election campaign last year when he announced a list of 21 potential Supreme Court nominees, selected with the help of the Federalist Society and The Heritage Foundation. The list was an instant hit with conservatives and helped cement the candidate’s support among the Republican base.

“It’s a great list. From the moment I put that list out, it solved that problem. And I was proud to say it was my idea,” he said.

We’ve won the Supreme Court for now.

Trump will be around for 8 years, and I doubt Ginsberg will last very much longer. I have seen rumors of Thomas retiring soon too. As long as the rest don’t outlast Trump we’ll cement the Supreme Court to the right for a very long time.

But wait for some SJW activist judge to “over-rule” the SC, like they have been on Trump.

81. Wow. In today’s world that could be another 10 years or so.

The way Roberts handled the obamacare case I thought he was the swing vote.

I guess he just dropped the ball on that one.

Because I’m thinned skinned and it’s MY problem :)

Always have been!

Not sure how you change that at 48.

But you are right. The answers one gets are INCREDIBLE sometimes, on here.

I don’t know. I just asked somebody if Kenned was conservative and when he was chosen.

Then eye.. got all offended by it.

Yeah I could have looked it up, but as usual the response from the gentleman I asked was a Thousand times more informative and just plain better than wikipedia.

No one ever expects just a straight out answer on here. People here know a lot. And it’s great.

He’s allowed his opinion and I get offended too easily. I admit to that. I’ve no ill feelings.

THOMAS IS THE BEST US SUPREME COURT JUSTICE TODAY!!

I don’t want Thomas to retire. We need to encourage him to stay for a very long time. His service to us has been incredible and we are very grateful. And for my own selfish reasons, I would really like for him to stay on for a long time.

President Trump will stick with the same list of potential nominees for the next Supreme Court vacancy ...

The next vacant seat will be the one held by Bork/Ginsberg/Kennedy, who is rumored to be retiring shortly. Going to his list of 20 vetted candidates is a no-brainer for this one. However, what will happen if either Breyer or Ginsburg retires or gets carried out feet first? When this happens, the sh!t will hit the fan big time and massive unprecedented pressure will be put on Trump to go outside that list and keep the current ideological makeup unchanged. HE MUST HOLD FIRM and fight the RINOs in the Senate who will no doubt surrender immediately to the (D)ummycrats. Despite the seating of Gorsuch, we are still way behind on the Court.

We have a full decade now to pronounce Alito a success ( Dear Lord we dodged a bullet there with Bush43 and Harriet Miers ) so that is one Conservative Constitutionalist in addition to the great Clarence Thomas. If we will assume that Gorsuch is a Constitutionalist as he was vetted by the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society then we are merely back to 3 worthwhile Justices on a Court that unfortunately still contains Roberts and Kennedy in addition to the 4 leftist scumbags. So we can still expect to be handed 6-3 losses as happened often in the past. Let's take a look forward ...

After the death of Scalia and before Gorsuch was confirmed the score was ...
Friendly=2
Enemy=4
Finger-in-Wind=2

With Gorsuch seated the score becomes ...
Friendly=3
Enemy=4
Finger-in-Wind=2

Replacing Kennedy with a Constitutionalist becomes ...
Friendly=4
Enemy=4
Finger-in-Wind=1

Replacing Ginsburg with a Constitutionalist ...
Friendly=5
Enemy=3
Finger-in-Wind=1

Replacing Breyer with a Constitutionalist ...
Friendly=6
Enemy=2
Finger-in-Wind=1

Maybe Trump can talk Roberts into resigning ...
Friendly=7
Enemy=2
Finger-in-Wind=0

Needless to say, if the mighty Clarence Thomas ( greatest "Constitutionalist" ever IMHO ) decides to retire, he will no doubt leave while under President Trump because he is wise and knows the stakes. Assuming the two Obama witches are healthy, President Trump could fill a maximum of 7 seats! That would surpass Abraham Lincoln (5), Andrew Jackson (6), and William Howard Taft (6). Only FDR (9) and George Washington himself (11) filled more seats! In a far-fetched dream scenario the Congress could expand the court to 11 seats and give him a shot at tying the all-time record. [ Note, technically the Court does have 11 seats, but two were dissolved by never being refilled after the Civil War when the radical Republicans declared war on Andrew Johnson. Needless to say, he got no appointments. ]

Interestingly, the Gorsuch seat is the only actual "conservative seat" on the Court in living memory, the only one with an unbroken string since 1955 with Harlan II, then Rehnquist, then Scalia, and now Gorsuch. Prior to Harlan it was Robert H. Jackson, a kind of liberal democrat but who is now famous for being the Nuremberg tribunal boss and also for agreeing with FDR in supporting internment in the Korematsu case.

Today we are at our historical peak in the modern era of 3 Constitutionalists sitting simultaneously. We have never had four since FDR ( and this is the biggest destructor of America and has been for 80 years ). Furthermore, we have often had less than 3. At one point it was just Rehnquist and Scalia for 2 reliable Justices. Prior to that we had just Rehnquist for just 1 Since Rehnquist took Harlan's seat ( the only reliable Justice prior ) it means that the entire Warren Court and Burger Court era we had just 1 reliable Justice. This is exactly how America was lost to the courts.

Prepare yourselves now for World War III in anticipation of each seat that opens up *after* Kennedy retires because you ain't seen nothing yet. We will need to light up the phone lines at the White House more spectacularly than for the Harriet Miers fiasco to keep Trump and his team in line. And we must win this war here and now or everything that has happened already, and will happen during the Trump administration will all be for naught. This is the battle we have all spent our lives planning for and defeat is not an option.

I don’t think Cruz wants to be on the court. The Senate is much higher profile and Cruz is not a wall flower.

He also has the ability to write legislation. That’s a rare skill generally farmed out to lobbyists. I see him as majority leader some day.

Souter retired in 2009. Your includes ten rather than the current nine justices.

“You’ll have hundreds of cases decided by 5-4..."

Very true, but 7-2 would be better. Hurry up and call it a career, Anthony Kennedy, RBG and Stephen Breyer!

Some news - Trump actually intends to keep his promises even though the RINOs/GOPe have opted to fight him by being as obstructive as Schumer and Pelosi.

The next confirmation hearing will be messy. Getting someone to accept the nomination and put their family through that limits the pool

Thank you Lord for giving the American people the wisdom to elect Donald Trump as President of the United States of America.

We are humbled.

Those three “Jews” on the court are NOT Jews. I refuse to honor them with that distinction.

They especially are NOT descendants of the biblical Abraham or Isaac. Those three on the court are pure Bolsheviks, born from the loins of Satan. There is no higher evil on the planet than to be a Bolshevik and those three wear that title proudly.

I could live with Ted Cruz as majority leader, but I will not support him for President, he is not eligible.

Sadly, no. She didn't get selected at the Mary Harman Mary Hartman cattle call...

IMHO, there were certain irregularities in his adoption of foreign born children, "Vote the 'wrong' way and we'll take them away from you."
