Can’t there be fault with both sides here?
United shouldn’t have asked Dao to leave after he had been seated, at least for the reason it did. They also should have upped their monetary incentive.
On the other hand, do we really want passengers deciding for themselves when to obey orders from airport police to leave — and to violently resist whenever they feel like it? There will be situations when a seated passenger should leave to protect the wellbeing of a lot of people.
Bump to the top.
My attitude towards duly constituted civil authority is framed by an old “elephant joke”:
Q: What do you call a ten foot tall monster with sharp claws that breathes fire ?
A: “Sir”
The police were not involved. The thugs who knocked Dao’s teeth out, broke his nose and gave him a head injury were airport security guards. They aren’t allowed to carry guns or make arrests.
agreed
the video always contradicts the government officials
If I saw you, Dao or anyone else acting like a 5 year old and throwing a tantrum I’d have given up my seat. First of all no flight means THAT much to me, secondly the spectacle was humiliating for all on board and thirdly I don’t want to fly on a plane with known mental cases.
If he was violent with the police, why wasn’t he charged with assault on a police officer?
Read the fine print.... I could almost bet the lottery will soon have small print that steals your jackpot too;)
Points well taken, but I didn’t mean going to the other extreme and behaving violently.
Just at least attempting to stand up for yourself. After all, he paid for the seat and if I remember correctly, he was told he was chosen at random to let an unnamed ‘higher priority passenger’ take his seat.
Seems to me at least ask why this flight and this particular seat; is there another open seat somewhere. Maybe something can be worked out - as civilized people.
The video shows him violently bashing his head into armrests, and other airline property. People should refrain from attacking airline property with their heads. /s
Do you have shares in United? They freaking lied, and beat up on a scrawny Asian. Good God this was settled already.
And you will not fair well
I think you’re right on this and I’m in error. I did see one article saying there was a video of this man’s violence, but then that article must have gotten pulled as I can no longer find it.
So it looks like there is no video of this behavior.
I hope there are young children on that flight so mothers can point at you and say never act like that. I want you to act like the nice man that gave his seat to the mentally challenged emotionally disturbed passenger.
The airline was the one throwing the tantrum. They laughed in the faces of a couple who was willing to negotiate their offer, and then violated not only their own Terms of Service but also the laws that govern Common Carriers. It will end up being a very expensive hissy fit.
Everyone was seated. The security guard tells you, “Get off the plane now! We need your seat for our staff. Sorry, you lost the lottery. Everyone else will fly. You get off now or we’ll rough you up and drag you off.”
How does Mr. FReeper, tough guy, 2nd amendment guy, I know my rights, no mall cop will arbitrarily throw me off the plane when I paid for my ticket guy going to respond?
“I’m an adult. I will follow your rules. Anyone have a diaper?”
Grow up. The best policy when confronted by police officers is to follow orders. If you think you were done wrong, there are courts of law for that. Nobody wins confrontations with police. I was stopped many times unjustifiably by corrupt cops in Chicago while driving normally. I was never physically harmed, ever.
police do lie
