Tian Yulong, secretary general for China's space agency, confirmed the plans ESA has described its 'Moon Village' as a launching pad for missions to Mars The lunar site could also support space mining missions and even tourism It could also act as a 'pit stop' for the further exploration of deep space
China is talking with the European Space Agency about collaborating on a human settlement on the moon.
The secretary general for China's space agency, Tian Yulong, disclosed the talks today in Chinese state media.
The ESA has previously described its 'Moon Village' as a potential international launching pad for future missions to Mars.
Further details on what the collaboration could entail were not revealed.
But last year, the head of the ESA elaborated on plans to build a village on the moon.
'The future of space travel needs a new vision,' said Jan Woerner.
The concept is a base for lunar exploration by humans and robots, which would act as a stopover for spacecraft, and become a 'village' with mining and even tourism.
'The future of space travel needs a new vision.
'Right now we have the Space Station as a common international project, but it won't last forever,' said Woerner.
'If I say Moon Village, it does not mean single houses, a church, a town hall and so on. No, that would be misleading.
'My idea only deals with the core of the concept of a village: people working and living together in the same place.
'And this place would be on the Moon.

So... the empty cities were in Red China were just practice?
Other than the spectacular view from there, what advantage is there to living long-term on the moon?
As a first step and practice for perhaps someday living on other planets?
China’s going to be around for a long time to come, but if they’re teaming with Europe on any kind of technology project of this scale, they better hurry. If Islam succeeds in over-running and dominating Europe as seems to be happening, it’ll soon slip into a technological and intellectual Bronze Age morass which will preclude any forward thinking of this sort.
Health reasons, possibly, longevity of people’s lives.
But the biggie is H3:
H3 mining:

China is going to mine the Moon for helium-3 fusion fuel:

The Chinese version of “Stone Soup”.
And it works every time!
Oh please let us choose who gets to go to the colony from the U.S.!
We'll sell the ChiComms on needing a full-time consultant
I’ve been saying for years that we should send robots to the moon to build a base for ultimate human habitation. Robots would reduce the expense and the risk. In addition it would create an incubator for robot technology which is the next tech vanguard. If we do nothing then China will soon be ahead of us. Already Europe is ahead of us on robot technology.
It makes sense. Chinese people are smaller................
The closest earth gets to Mars is between 60,000,0000 and 100,000,000 miles. We are 239,000 miles from the moon. So it is like traveling 2.39 miles and saying it is a good jumping off point for a 600 to 1,000 mile trip.
I don’t get it unless leaving the moon’s atmosphere is so much easier than earth however, even so, you still have to get all the supplies to the moon.
The problem with building a Chinese lunar colony is a year later you want to build another one.
For empty cities on the moon?
Seems ridiculous at first.
Humans are optimized for life on Earth. We are not suited for life on a desolate satellite of Earth. A satellite that has no seasons, no atmosphere, no plants, no clouds, no green grass. Its gravity is a fraction of that of Earth.
Plus it is morally unacceptable to bring forth children on the Moon with the intention of leaving them there for their entire lives, with no choice in the matter.
However, there is a reason for their madness.
The new colony would be established based on principles of atheistic materialistic communism with no influence whatsoever from Christianity or Judaism. In short, the kind of world the left has been trying to establish on Earth, with limited success.
As long as EACH and EVERY member of NATO is paying their hare and not one dime, I don’t give a #### what Western Europe does anymore.
What about the Federation?

Along with her supporting cast of moonbats.
Dream no small dreams.
A moon-base “village” would be necessarily be carved out BELOW the surface of the moon, as this is both the most cost-effective and structurally secure design. Together as a gateway to mining the subsurface ores, as insulation against both extreme heat and cold, and a containment for retaining the necessary life support for the persons living there on a permanent basis.
Because humanity evolved in an environment with considerably greater gravity, persons who live long-term, or are born while on the Moon, would acquire very different physical characteristics, and may not even be able to return to an Earth environment, at least not without considerable adaptive means.
But think of the possibilities for development of solar power, with a face of the moon turned to the sun for extended periods of time.
