Fox News normally ranks #1 among cable news channels. But lately MSNBC's Rachel Maddow has been challenging Fox at 9 p.m., the centerpiece of the prime time schedule.
"The Rachel Maddow Show" surpassed "Tucker Carlson Tonight" in March among 25- to 54-year-old viewers, the demographic that determines advertising rates. Maddow was on track to win again in April. But on Monday night the cable news ratings race changed dramatically. Carlson moved from 9 p.m. to 8, replacing Bill O'Reilly, and Fox's 5 p.m. talk show "The Five" moved to 9.
Maddow may or may not benefit from the change. Regardless, executives all across television news have already taken notice of her recent wins. According to Nielsen data, Maddow also narrowly topped Fox's 8 p.m. hour last week, when Dana Perino and Greg Gutfeld filled in for O'Reilly.
Maddow's surge is being fueled partly by her day-in, day-out criticism of the Trump administration. There is an increased appetite for the liberal arguments she has been making for years.
"There's a reason Rachel is beating Fox and CNN," MSNBC president Phil Griffin told CNNMoney in an email. "She's a talented storyteller who's helping her audience cut through all the confusion coming out of Washington. She's connecting dots in ways no one else is."

Switch to One America News OAN IS what Faux News pretends to be. America is getting on to Faux News. Things will only get worse.
hard to imagine madcow to touch the face of God.
And furthermore, Brian Stetler is a flat out, cryto democrat liar. He has a long, long history of reporting fake news and recently was excoriated by Mark Levin for his lies.
Rachael barely edged out Tucker at 9 PM, but Fox dominates the rest of the night overall, with PMSNBC finishing a distant third in several time slots.
PMSNBC is whistling past the graveyard.
THE FIVE is “fluff”, except when the dope addict and drunk Beckle opens his mouth and when Greg Guttfeld says ANYTHING at all. That show is THE worst thing on T.V.; even Dan Rather was more watchable!
Meanwhile, MacCallum will have a town hall in Ohio during her show at 7 pm tonight. Who wants to watch a town hall?
They make a big deal about her ratings when she announced she had the Trump tax return. But when she released it and it showed that Donald Trump paid millions in taxes for that year, the following night for Ratings took a huge nosedive and stayed down for a few days.
That aside the the overall numbers for the full day, Fox News still beats both CNN and MSNBC substantially.
The Murdoch boys took over a couple of years ago, but now, they are rolling faster. They are bound and determined to decimate the empire their father built.
He is there too draw liberals.
Hysterical, retarded nonsense.
I think it’s more of a drop off in viewers at Fox, who typically don’t change the channel to view MSNBC.
Besides, I may watch a full hour of Tucker but, I won’t watch a full hour of some androgynous scarecrow....
Which brings us to the larger point. Are numbers solid for segments, cross segments or even the whole hour?
I doubt she holds an hour, as much as Tucker and more to the point: Many of us here really liked Tucker for a number of years and even hated his ridiculous bow ties but, he is still new for a majority of viewers and as they observe how he rolls over people and exposes their lies and hypocrisy without a smile and lets them get away with their ego intact, they will become more informed and his viewership should rise.
Bob Beckel is a lowlife scumbag, I won’t watch a show that includes him
She’s a talented storyteller
Wow, their honest about it
Didn’t I read where Tucker Carlson’s first gig as prime time anchor at Fox replacing BOR - he had that human freak show; Bruce Jenner?
So it’s no surprise Fox News is swirling the bowl. I haven’t watched it for years. I see no reason to start watching it now.

Fox News Wins Night One With Revamped Prime Time Lineup

Its the beginning of a new era at Fox News. The networks revamped prime time lineup got off to a strong start last night ratings-wise, with the network defeating CNN and MSNBC in total viewers and A25-54 in the 8, 9 and 10 p.m. ET hours, per early Nielsen data.
The final live-plus-same-day figures for prime time will be released at around 4 p.m. ET, and well include those in tonights daily scoreboard.
The debut of Tucker Carlson Tonight in the 8 p.m. hour ended up being the top cable news show of the night, easily defeating 8 p.m. cable news counterparts Anderson Cooper 360 and All in Chris Hayes in key categories, as most expected.
Hannity easily won the 10 p.m. hour, defeating CNNs Town Hall with John Kasich, and MSNBCs Last Word with Lawrence ODonnell in all relevant categories.
But the matchup to really keep an eye on going forward will be in the 9 p.m. hour. Fox Newss panel program The Five now occupies the timeslot. Jesse Watters replaces Eric Bolling, who gets his own show at 5 p.m. starting on Monday.
The Five managed to fend off Rachel Maddow on night one, not just in total viewers but also in the key news demo. A Fox News victory in the news demo at 9 p.m. has been far from a guarantee in recent weeks.
The Lead with Jake Tapper is airing in CNNs rotating 9 p.m. timeslot this week, and finished a distant third.
Were only one night in, but this appears to be a promising start for the network as it looks to heal from the stunning departure of cable news icon Bill OReilly.

The demise of FOXNEWS has nothing to do with the programming or the anchors. It is liberal fascism which has brought about all of that. The question is whether the Murdock Bros. helped that process along with their acceptance of the charges against O’Reilly without having a day in court. When you pay out millions to a woman claiming sexism without fighting it, what do you think is going to happen? Others will try the same with lies, if necessary, when there is nothing to lose and much to gain. Women hate the men they need to have the kind of life they want and, many, if rebuffed by attractive and successful men, will look for the chance to get revenge.
