We called them the “Granny” threads. Granny was a dear soul house bound with breathing issues but had a vast knowledge of olden days. I believe in her younger years one of her occupations was prospecting for gold with her husband. She was a prolific poster and there were several 10,000+ threads. Sadly, she passed away a few years ago.
One thread that I got involved in was about O’Bama’s draft card. It was postmarked just 80 and I and other Freepers maintained that someone had taken a 2008 rubber stamp, cut the numbers 20 off and turned it upside down to look like he submitted a draft card in 1980. I worked in various departments of the postal service for 25 years and never encountered a date stamp with just 2 digits-always all four digits. Some here maintained the date stamp was legit but having worked for Postal Service Examiners and at the main office in D.C. and changed the date stamp at years end for many years, and never encountering a 2 digit year date, I still maintain that date stamp was forged. However, just one of many shady deals O’Bama got away with.

Yes I have mountains i can see out my window that start at the end of the holler (I get to live in a holler! so that means I’m in the foothills, I guess). anyway, the mountains are the Iron mountains that are part of the blue ridge mountains. I’m still learning all the different names for the ranges near here.

It has been very nice here but today temp dropped 20 degrees and it has been chilly.

IMO the only hope for this country is, ironically, for it to fail while enough of us that remember the Constitution are still around for the rebuilding. Just one generation from now wild be too late.

Like you, strawberries are my favorite. Picked in the morning and eaten that same day-wonderful. I pick two quarts every day in season and eat at least half of them myself. I have them at least twice a day and some times again at bedtime. Having them fresh spoils you for the out of season ones at the market. Not crazy about them frozen and don’t eat much jam or jelly so friends, relatives and neighbors are the recipients of many of them. It would help if I wasn’t so fussy about others being in my strawberry patch, but I am, so I wind up picking most of them myself. This year may be difficult as I acquired A-Fib last fall and find myself short of breath. May have to break down and allow others in my patch. My daughter usually helps me pick as she picks to suit me and doesn’t tread on the berries. I’m really not fussy about the rest of my garden and have people help themselves-it’s just the strawberries that I can’t bear to see trampled on.
