The media better be careful before cheering this on, and they want to because Assange cost their candidate the election. If the government can go after WikiLeaks, they can go after CNN, the Washington Post, and the New York Times who all either leak documents or (usually) leak info via anonymous sources. (WikiLeaks is more honest because they leak the full documents - no anonymous sources. Their documents have never proven to be false.) The Washington Post actually had a link where people could contact them if they wanted to leak government info.

Unless they can prove that the following linked paragraph is true and true in the sense that they didn't just communicate with Manning but ordered and helped Manning in stealing documents as opposed to just leaking them, I do not support this.

Last week in a speech at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, CIA Director Mike Pompeo said: “WikiLeaks directed Chelsea Manning to intercept specific secret information, and it overwhelmingly focuses on the United States.”

I can understand where Pompeo is coming from as the head of the CIA, and I understand we don't want our security secrets leaked, but some things, like the fact that they can spy through a smart TV or phone or hack a car are things that I would rather know.

As I said above, this creates a bad precedent if Assange is arrested because it opens the door for other media.

Imo, there are plenty of domestic current & former “leakers” right here in our intelligence community that need to be charged

Assange only publishes leaked documents.

I’m all for taking him down as long as the staff of the Washington Post and NY Times share a cell with him.

Looks like Assange is going to spend the rest of his days in the Ecuadorian Embassy with visits from Pamela Anderson.

I love Trump but I am far from trusting the government around him.

Assange has done more damage to the dem machine than anyone else besides Trump.

Let him walk.

How about we go and clean up our own back yard FIRST. We have plenty of felons that we have overwhelming evidence on that you can recommend your Justus Department to go after President Trump. Proceed with those first and once that is done (in 8 years) then the next President can take over.

I think the Trump team is going overboard here still trying to make it look like they weren’t colluding with Russia on the timing of the leaks.

I don’t like the uneven prosecution. It should be just the domestic leakers on the hook, but if Assange gets prosecuted, all the Deep State friends publishing leaks in the WP, NYT, etc., should be prosecuted as well.

I would guess the main point of “going after” Assange might be to use him to ferret out the leakers. Ready-made plea deal inherent if he “becomes available for questioning”, and it might open a serious can of worms for those in “Intelligence” who abuse their access.

Sorry but Assange is no hero. He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Will the last Trump supporter turn out the lights?

I know he is better than Hillary, but that is an incredibly low bar. Assange is a hero like all whistleblowers, they need medals not jail cells.

“Donald Trump on US charging Julian Assange: ‘It’s OK with me”

Lots of fake news these days designed to rile up Trump supporters. Lets see absolute verification that Trump actually said it in this exact way.

I want to be completely un-biased here.

What exactly would he be charged with? I do not recall him directly anyone to spy. Documents were sent to him. No crime was committed by him on U.S. soil. I also recall him working WITH U.S. Media. With that said, allow me to put on my conspiracy hat for a moment...

For the last many years, Assange has been stuck at a Central American embassy, and although wanted on ‘serious’ charges, no government has managed to pry him from the hands of Ecuador. Think about that for a minute. How much pressure could be applied from Great Britain and/or the U.S. to that small, poor country to apprehend Assange?

What am I saying? If we wanted Assange, we could have grabbed him and any moment in the past. Why now?

Anything to do with the recent election in Ecuador?

Just my $0.02

The question for me is, has anything Assange released inaccurate? I believe the answer is no making him a more reliable news source than the MSM.

I think the whole idea of prosecuting him or even attempting to his stupid political theater. He is not a US citizen and by all accounts everything he did was outside the United States. He did not steal anything, he was under no obligation to any time to protect American secrets. All he did was, unfortunately for us, was to publish them. our complaint is and should be with the people who stalled the secrets, who committed treason against us, those are the people that we should find, try, and execute. Otherwise, if we are going to attempt to prosecute him for publishing what he received, then we must equally pursue all of the media sites, and even bloggers, and those of us here on Effar who published what he received. That obviously is not going to happen. Which proves my point, this is simply a political show.

I still don’t understand how the USA can arrest him.
He is not an American citizen and so he is not subject to our laws. Plus, he has not committed any crimes on our soil.

This is worrisome “one world” stuff. If everyone on the planet is subject to the laws of the USA then the people who claim everyone has a right be here (legally or not) have a stronger case.
