KABUL, Afghanistan — At least 94 Islamic State militants were killed by the largest non-nuclear bomb ever used in combat, an Afghan army spokesman said Saturday.
Maj. Sherin Aqa, head of public affairs for the 201st Corps in eastern Nangarhar province, where the GBU-43B was detonated, said ISIS commanders are among the dead.
“Our latest reports indicate that four main commanders are among the 94 people killed,” Aqa told Stars and Stripes.

That is correct. Because of the very large blast radius and the damage mechanism, having shrapnel would decrease the effectiveness of the MOAB. This bomb is designed with an unusually thin and light aluminum skin, so thin that the MOAB needs a pallet for support during storage and transport, so that almost all the explosive energy will go to and stay in the shock wave.

At first I liked Karzai and though he was going to be good for Afghanistan. Alas...when I heard....but don’t touch our poppy fields...or hurt anyone, I got the message....just give us money.

Possible approximation. With the large number of injuries from land mines, might be more like “divide by 1.6”, and being Afghans, also need to count sandals.
