FBI obtained FISA warrant to monitor former Trump adviser Carter Page
Washington Post ^ | April 11, 2017

The FBI obtained a secret court order last summer to monitor the communications of an adviser to presidential candidate Donald Trump, part of an investigation into possible links between Russia and the campaign, law enforcement and other U.S. officials said.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications after convincing a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court judge that there was probable cause to believe Page was acting as an agent of a foreign power, in this case Russia, according to the officials.

This is the clearest evidence so far that the FBI had reason to believe during the 2016 presidential campaign that a Trump campaign adviser was in touch with Russian agents. Such contacts are now at the center of an investigation into whether the campaign coordinated with the Russian government to swing the election in Trump’s favor.

Yep. Thought provoking.

Big banks have foreign connections to justify “incidental” listening to just about all of America.

Nixon to Congress: Look guys, we suspected that the Democrats were cheating in the election, so we sent people into their campaign headquarters in the Watergate hotel to investigate.

Media: Well, the fact that Nixon had to send burglars into their HQ to investigate is all the proof we need that the DNC was doing something wrong. Why else would he do that?

A Politico.com article from last September did a thorough job of portraying Carter Page, PhD as a self-promoting mediocrity that used Trump, et al to bootstrap his non-career into the big playyah zone. The obvious implication was that Trump was clueless and threw out the guy’s name as a foreign policy advisor without knowing beans about him (quite plausible). I’d guess Page got himself some FBI love via efforts to ingratiate himself with the Russian Ambassador, who apparently finds time to meet or talk with darn near everyone; I feel slighted. If this was the excuse to surveille Trump, it was thin soup. Bad on Trump for giving the guy the time of day.

Although they credit an earlier POST post....

There should be a hearing and lets look at the evidence, this was abuse of the search warrant process and was done to attack the political enemies of Obama.

What evidence did they have, and how long was the warrant for? What were they specifically searching for?

This guy’s case was no where then and no where months later as the FBI didn’t find squat, but they sure as hell listened to everyone in the Trump organization. This is an abuse of the police powers of the state to attack political enemies.

Third world nation tactics.

The FBI and the Justice Department obtained the warrant targeting Carter Page’s communications...

So everyone Page talked to is also recorded.

This is the clearest evidence so far...

It's not evidence. It's crap thrown together to get a FISA warrant.

The officials spoke about the court order on the condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss details of a counterintelligence probe.

Cowardly, slimy anonymous sources doing something they are not supposed to do, and which might very well be illegal. IF there are any anonymous sources at all. I mean, how can we be sure the WaPo reporter is not making all this up? IF there are real sources, obviously they come from the FBI and/or some Dem slimebucket on the Hill and/or one of Obama's lackeys (like Rice) who has been holding on to this info.

The government’s application for the surveillance order targeting Page included a lengthy declaration that laid out investigators’ basis for believing that Page was an agent of the Russian government...Three years before Page became an adviser to the Trump campaign (in 2013) , he came to the attention of FBI counterintelligence agents....

So this Page dude was supposedly under surveillance for years before Trump even decided to run for president. He appears to have been more of a hanger on with the campaign than an actual advisor or aide. If he is such a nefarious guy, how come the FBI didn't warn the Trump campaign about him? That would have been the honorable thing to do. If this is the thread all this crap about Russia is hanging on, it's a very thin thread indeed.

There should be a hearing

Congressional hearings are 100% useless. The only purpose they serve is to give bloviating congress critters face time on TV.

“This confirms all of my suspicions about unjustified, politically motivated government surveillance,” Page told the Post Tuesday. “I have nothing to hide.”

I’m thinking FISA got started under Carter and maybe was beefed up under Dubya but could be wrong.
