White House counselor Kellyanne Conway urged Democrats to come to the bargaining table with President Trump on legislative issues and thinks they may be key to getting Trump's legislative agenda passed.
On Fox News Tuesday, Conway said bipartisan work on tax reform and infrastructure will be key to getting the administration's proposal through Congress. She said working with Trump could be key to some Senate Democrats' re-election chances.
"A number of them may want to listen to their constituents that are saying we want some type of tax relief to allow us to spur this growth, this 3 to 4 percent growth, that allows us to retain and attract an American workforce," Conway said.
She added, "We would like the Democrats' help on tax reform, on healthcare reform, on infrastructure, and we certainly want Congress to move swiftly on all these."

I don’t like it but the worthless GOP controlled congress led by snake Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell are ginving Trump no options. They control the congress and the slow rolling of Trump’s agenda and his appointments is absolutely their doing. They are undermining him intentionally. Trump needs to up the ante by saying “I don’t need you, I’ll work with them to get stuff done and I’ll make sure THEY get the credit instead of you. Unless you are ready to get off your butts and help me for once. Ball’s in your court, Paul and Mitch.”
“To have democratic support, you’re going to get bills that are not what the average Freeper will want or support.”
Not necessarily. You had a few Democrats vote for Gorsuch’s confirmation just last week. Plus you have RATs in Congress in RED Pro-Trump states coming up for re-election in 2018. I’m certain President Trump can use that to America’s advantage.
“Plus I think by 2018 a lot of people in the rust belt and coal country will begin understanding the phone isn’t going to ring with that well paying job they believe they’ve been promised.”
I’ve read that narrative being pushed by progressive in a forum at AdvRider.com (in the CSM forum) recently & I reject it entirely.
Good grief. He needs to kick the living manure out of the GOP for being feckless. He can start by getting rid of all the liberal NY democrats advising him.
Also your assumption that because the Democratic platform is to both you and I, clearly socialistic, that all Democrats see themselves as Socialist--or are in fact ideologically Socialist. Some--like PC Republicans--are simply letting themselves be used (played) by people with an agenda, that those being used have not really analyzed.
The basic point is that there are more factors in play than you realize--as for an obvious example, the interests of the big donors to particular Democrats war chests.
Ain't no blue dogs left. Working with democrats is like working with Fidel Castro.
How is tax reform going to pass the Senate without any Dem votes?
I take it the Duke and Duchess of the West Wing is fully supportive of this move. Heck, they probably pushed for it.
This kumbaya thing with the Dems is very touching - I’m starting to get all teary-eyed with emotion...
Kind of like when I saw those pictures.
I’m glad you’re an optimist.
Democrat votes are welcome. Democrat ideas on taxes are not. Don't surrender without a fight ... such as a REAL tax cut plan that is SOLD to the country by a united GOP using Trump's bully pulpit and congress getting off their asses and communicating with the nation.
Trump needs to teach the GOP how to win and lead - not surrender to Schumer and Pelosi - otherwise he will be a failure.
But that’s not the way it’s supposed to be when you have the majority and the Presidency. Why not give in to the Freedom Caucus’s demands instead of the Democrats? They’re Republicans after all.
Democrats never give in to Republicans and will lock them out of negotiations and pass horrendous bills without 1 Republican vote.
Republicans are too scared to act like Democrats. They still want the Dems to like them.
They are willing to destroy the country rather than have Trump succeed.
Need I remind you that Democrats have convinced their followers that he is HITLER. Ask 10 Democrats about Trump and at least 7 honestly believe that he is HITLER!
How on Earth do you work with THAT?
The house GOP aint doing squat.
What concerns me is that sometimes Trump seems more concerned with closing a deal than with what the deal contains. There is no way any Democrat would have signed on to Trumpcare. There is no way any Democrat will sign on for tax breaks for the upper income. Looking to them for help will mean compromising the GOP positions for the opposition party ones.
We have 52 votes in the Senate once Sessions replacement is onboard. And we have McCain, Graham, Collins, Flake, etc. who are not reliable.
The GOP needs Dem votes to pass legislation unless they get rid of the filibuster entirely. The failure to repeal and replace Obamacare demonstrated the inability of the GOP to come together and govern.
Trump was able to win against all odds. If the GOP cannot coalesce behind him, they deserve to be the minority party. The midterms will be a disaster if Trump has nothing to show for his victory.
Trump may be thinking (I'm only supposing) that getting Democrats engaged will make any future charges of impeachment to be less credible, and possibly sour grapes.

Compromise is not surrender.
The stupid GOP is working overtime to snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory and make an enemy out of Trump. He's doing some signaling of his own now. Let's see how it plays out. My bet is that the alpha dog in this battle of wills is Trump and he'll bring his party to heel without having to do much of substance with dems. But we'll see.
>But thats not the way its supposed to be when you have the majority and the Presidency. Why not give in to the Freedom Caucuss demands instead of the Democrats?
Trump made numerous concession to the freedom caucus but it was never enough for them and the more he gave the more he lost with the moderate GOP. Ultimately the freedom Caucus decided full repeal or nothing and everyone got nothing. So Trump’s going to work with people willing to cut a deal.
Trump’s a deal maker and if you’re not willing to make deals then you get nothing.
> That sounds like Jeb.
And you sound like Jerry Jones.
Most in the GOP want to work with democrats. Unfortunately most democrats would rather chew on tin foil while shaving their head with a cheese grater.
