The Texas state dish is chili, its tree is the pecan and its fish is the Guadalupe bass. And soon, Texas may have an explosive addition to its set of official symbols: plans are afoot for a state gun.
Though Texas lawmakers through the years have seen fit to designate dozens of symbols, including an official pollinator (the western honey bee), cooking implement (the cast-iron Dutch oven) and shell (the lightning whelk), they have not yet given the seal of approval to a weapon, despite the states famous fondness for arms.

Notice, if you go to the guardian, the blurb above the pic: The cannon could become the next Texas symbol in state known for "LAX GUN CONTROL LAWS"(as if that's a bad thing?), as lawmakers also consider selecting a state handgun and state knife... Those brits huh? Notice that one of the firearms being considered is the 1847 Colt Walker used in the American-Mexican war. Wouldn't that be a trigger to some of hiss-panic heritage? There is so much to work with here.
Build the wall, Texas.
If we do not, then nothing else will matter.
Samuel Colt’s .45...”The Gun That Won the West”....
I know Pennsylvania has an official state gun, and maybe six or seven other states as well. Most are of Civil War vintage or earlier, so no handouts. Chin up!
The video at the bottom of the piece is, well, better watched with the sound off. Most of us can fill in the script with little problem. Notice it starts off with a guy with a mullet holding a baby, for ransom apparently. Later toward the end there’s a clip of a guy talking with what looks like a Mini-14 leaning against the wall pointing up at a picture of Jesus. Hmmm. Wonder what that means.
Ah here we go:
“A state firearm has only been designated by eight of the fifty States in the United States: Alaska, Arizona, Utah, Indiana, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Tennessee.”

Model 29 S&W is Kalifornia’s state pistol, if you can believe the hypocritical irony.
I thought the 300 WinMag was Texas state rifle in honor of Chris Kyle? Maybe no.
There was a thread a while back that had a bunch of states with their listed firearms? It made me laugh because Michigan was represented by the Daisy Red Rider BB gun.
I expect a range of states eventually designating the ak-47 JihadHappyDance model, once the cultural replacements are completed.
More beans more flames...
It’s all well and good but our legislature only meets every other year so it may not be the best use their time. At any rate, I vote Desert Eagle. This is TEXAS and as the James McMurtry song goes: That’s one big ‘ol pistol made by bad ass Hebrews. Also his dad is Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove. Kinda fits . . .

Colt .45 single action. Don’t care about real Texas history, I want the gun John Wayne Texas gun to win.
I would recommend the 75.cal East India pattern Brown Bess. That was the weapon that Santa Ana’s Army was equipped with during the Texas Revolution
Samuel Colts .45...The Gun That Won the West....

I’d say specifically the Colt Walker.
