Hmmm. So would that mean the state will supply the "state firearm" to anyone who is a resident (legal of course) in the state if they would like one? Link to The Guardian article:
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/apr/09/texas-official-state-gun-cannon
Notice, if you go to the guardian, the blurb above the pic: The cannon could become the next Texas symbol in state known for "LAX GUN CONTROL LAWS"(as if that's a bad thing?), as lawmakers also consider selecting a state handgun and state knife... Those brits huh? Notice that one of the firearms being considered is the 1847 Colt Walker used in the American-Mexican war. Wouldn't that be a trigger to some of hiss-panic heritage? There is so much to work with here.

I know Pennsylvania has an official state gun, and maybe six or seven other states as well. Most are of Civil War vintage or earlier, so no handouts. Chin up!

The Texas state firearm has to be the 1847 Colt Walker.

I just had a long talk with Jerry Brown and convinced him to designate a California Official State Firearm. He immediately agreed to do so and sent me a photo of the gun that he is going to recommend to the legislature. He promised quick action on the bill.

It’s all well and good but our legislature only meets every other year so it may not be the best use their time. At any rate, I vote Desert Eagle. This is TEXAS and as the James McMurtry song goes: That’s one big ‘ol pistol made by bad ass Hebrews. Also his dad is Larry McMurtry, author of Lonesome Dove. Kinda fits . . .

I would recommend the 75.cal East India pattern Brown Bess. That was the weapon that Santa Ana’s Army was equipped with during the Texas Revolution

Colt Walker is first choice.
Runner up would be Colt 1851 Navy. Many cowboys carried them.

"LAX GUN CONTROL LAWS"
Never mind Texas outlawed handgun carry in the 1870s - allowing concealed carry in 1995.
