Nikki Haley: Regime change and the end of Assad is Trump's next priority for Syria
Reuters/Business Insider ^ | April 9 2017 | Timothy Gardner

U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley said in an interview that she sees regime change in Syria as one of the Trump administration's priorities in the country wracked by civil war.

Defeating Islamic State, pushing Iranian influence out of Syria, and the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad are priorities for Washington, Haley said in an interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” which will air in full on Sunday.

"It just -- if you look at his actions, if you look at the situation, it's going to be hard to see a government that's peaceful and stable with Assad."

AFP reported:

"We don’t see a peaceful Syria with Assad in there," Haley said.

Make Al Queda Great Again

Assad may be the only sane person in Syria.

The first words of his mouth will be regime change through political means. He is surrounded by folks like Haley who have been screaming otherwise.

I haven't heard Haley use the word "force".

By all means post her quote if that is what you heard.

“There’s not any sort of option where a political solution is going to happen with Assad at the head of the regime,”

She’s ruling out ANY political solution, do I need to spell this one out for you?

Yes, and many think United States would be GREAT AGAIN by crawling into a shell, and ignoring the world. These people obviously lack knowledge of history.

Two things go hand in hand....
1. Improve US prosperity. That can not be done without manufacturing playing the leading role. And that also requires fair trade.

2. Keep order in the world, so that world commerce can avoid disorder and disruption. That requires strong military.

So who assumes power if Assad is dumped... al-Qaeda or ISIS?

It is very unlikely Syria will have a secular leader if Assad is overthrown. This means more fanatics.

I will be very disappointed in Trump if this is the case.

It’s not “ crawling into a shell” to avoid stupid regime-change inasions. Reagan didn’t invade other countries, but he defeated communism. Unlike Bush, who created chailos on ME by stupid regime change invasion

It’s no use man. McCain and everyone else that should be strung up for creating ISIS has managed to get their people worked into control. They are safe and WE will insure Syria will be one a failed state run from Saudi Arabia.

All of these people on here that have no real idea of what is going on, or unwilling to admit we are bombing the wrong side, will just start chanting USA,USA,USA every time you try to explain it to them.

They are morons and will fall for the neocons shtick every single time.

Just because I oppose nation-building, sticking our noses in the ME for the umpteenth time

First, we should be going after ISIS in the ME. It is a national security threat. Secondly, we haven't invaded Syria. We dropped a few bombs there in response to the use of chemical weapons.

You act like Trump started a war to overthrow Assad. You're completely unhinged.

This perpetual outrage when any little thing happens is as bad as the far-left protesters. It's nauseating.

First, we should be going after ISIS in the ME.

We should do no such thing. We've been fighting terrorism in the ME since 2001, at a cost of thousands of American soldiers and trillions of dollars we don't have.

Yet, we continue to bring in these very people into this country....who then demand Sharia Law and commit sporadics acts of terrorism on our shores.

You want to stop terrorism? Just isolate the region. Stop with this asinine, totally ludicrous policy of going into ME hellholes to fight, but simultaneously welcoming these savages with open arms to come into our country and feed off the taxpayers.

You stop the problem at the source. I don't want none of these people into my country. You don't see Japan eagerly welcoming Muslims or Mexico, do you?

You act like Trump started a war to overthrow Assad.

Maybe you should re-read Trump's 2013 tweet again.

I’m glad you said that - I too find Haley annoying. A friend in Israel absolutely adores her (she just discovered who she was about 3 weeks ago of course) and when I pointed out her multitudinous failings as a United States governor, I got nothing but “a blank stare”. I doubt my friend even knows where SC is on the map.

SO what if Assad isn’t removed at all. Doesn’t bother me in the least, and I don’t think its worth an American life or dollar.
Its just not our concern.

My point was to tamp down the hysteria. There’s some kind of mass panic in here today. Just because Bush, Obama and Hillary screwed up doesn’t mean Trump will. Tillerson says there’s been no change in Syrian policy. I believe him.

run by the Ba’ath party where someone in the party likely will succeed al-Assad.

And likely to be just as brutal (Hint: They will have to be). We've seen this movie before. Just different actors.
