Republicans Suddenly Sweating Election in Deep-Red Kansas District
The Hill ^ | 44/07/17 | MAX GREENWOOD

Posted on 04/08/2017 11:05:58 PM PDT by nickcarraway

Vice President Pence is stepping into Kansas's special House election, recording a robocall urging Republican voters to cast their ballots for the party's congressional nominee on Tuesday, the Washington Examiner reported on Friday.

The robocall comes amid shaky support for Kansas State Treasurer Ron Estes, who is running against Democrat James Thompson to fill the House seat vacated by Mike Pompeo, who is now President Trump's CIA director.

President Trump won Kansas's 4th District by almost 30 points in November. But Democrats in the district have been energized by the president's low-approval ratings and controversies in his first months in office, leaving Republicans sweating over whether they will be able to hold the seat.

"Ron's run a horrible campaign," a Kansas Republican operative told the Examiner. "Hasn't raised much money, his ads are abysmal — no energy. It's a low turnout special and weird things happen."

Pence isn't the only high-profile Republican to step in to try to aid Estes. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) is expected to make an appearance in Kansas' 4th District on Monday, according to the Kansas City Star.

Another special House race in Georgia's 6th District also has Republicans scrambling for a win. Democrat Jon Ossoff has gained a high-profile in the district and is leading Republican candidates in polls to fill the House seat vacated by Health and Human Services Secretary Tom Price.

There was no “attack.” Please see post 97; thank you.

I agree—Trump voters IMO are hoping and holding out for him to come through with at least a good portion of the platform he ran on, and likely aren’t jumping ship yet. But it is only 19 months until the next election and already tax relief is looking likely to be delayed beyond significant effect at that time. And all the news this week is of the liberal Democrats in his admin, and their policies, being ascendant.

Plenty of time for course correction and concrete results. But both at this point are looking necessary.

Indeed. Just the Gorsuch appointment alone presumably 10x better than where we’d be with “Hill”.

So your saying no red lines were crossed and I shouldn’t have lobbed those cruise missles?

Ok, attack or not, I am not wading any further into that. But I stand by the substance of my post.

So stop attaching me!! /s

I meant attacking me. Not sure what attaching me would look like. But stop doing that was well.

I believe that tax reform was the second most important aspect of getting the economy rolling. The first thing was ending and rolling back an incredibly burdensome regulatory scheme. That is being accomplished. It is why we are seeing the economy turn around despite tax reform not being enacted as of yet.

Ad hominem became the go to method to swarm anyone who cited a fact against Donald Trump.

“Facts” are most definitely what Cruz and his most slavishly devoted followers here almost never cited about Trump during the primary—and some to this day are still more interested in rumors, distortions, and leftwing talking points against Trump than “facts” (even though that only helps the Dems really). At least 80-90% of the attacks on Trump I saw from Cruzers during the primaries were either outright lies or contained extreme distortions or highly misleading spin. I periodically worked to refute these sort of things with facts, direct quotes, and even citations, but what I could do was only a drop in the bucket. Everyone here too can easily remember that the Cruz supporters were throwing around ad hominem attacks just as quickly as Trump supporters—but you apparently only care about your side.

Nathanbedford, your posts are well written, but it seems to me that you were wrong about Trump almost 100% of the time during the campaign. That makes it challenging to put any credence behind your current analyses and future prognostications about him. You also don’t seem to realize how your long-term dislike and distrust of Trump and your preconceived ideas of how things should be done color your evaluations of him, even though that comes through fairly obviously in your posts, although you mostly seem to be trying to sound even-handed and just analytical. You may have been positive about Trump in 2 or 3% of your posts about him, but that hardly makes you fair or balances your overwhelming negativity towards him. I don’t mean this as an attack, and I’m happy to read your posts still, but this is the way it honestly appears to me.

I wasn’t alluding to your post at all, except for that one line about the other poster being ‘attacked.’ You are free to examine my posting history with a fine-toothed comb, if you have the time and inclination. You will discover that, contrary to the false charge, I attacked no one. I defended Trump and his spokesperson, but that’s the extent of it.

With the exception of that one line, I completely agree with everything you posted. There were a slew of great points, which made for very enoyable reading.

I think the most important regulatory burdens aren’t that easy to address and in many cases must be done through legislation, which isn’t yet proposed.

But the early moves have probably heartened many.

You're likely to be "attacked" whenever you engage in your smears of the President.

Your disingenuous analysis is worthless, because it betrays a slant that any "observant conservative" can see.

Your Trump-hatred should be called out whenever it manifests itself. And it manifests itself in virtually every sentence you write about the man.

You're incapable of disguising your dislike for the President—it is you who keep attacking those who carry that factual message...

Are you sure it's a good idea to be quoting Spiro Agnew on FR?

May want to look at all the seats they have lost and the reason why they don’t have much if a chance all they have is the same BS they have used for the last 8 years.

Bump to your post.

I was going to say the same kind of thing, the man has become a waste of bandwidth here, and little else.

It gets tougher on We the People in the Trump admin all the time. The people who supported him are losing influence as Kushner gains.

“With the direction of the Trump admin, the Dems are headed toward retaking the House in 2018—and then all hell will break loose.”

I’m sure you’ll be ecstatic when your prediction doesn’t come true. Right?

“Trump’s actions, especially involving healthcare but also involving his inner circle bereft now of conservatives...”

You can’t even keep up with current events. Steve Bannon is still one of President Trump’s main advisors. Friday night he sat right behind President Trump’s left shoulder in the war room in Mar-a-lago. There’s a picture all over FR & I bet you’ve seen it.

Never saw someone so determined to make silly & false claims as you seem to be. You did so during the primaries & your never really stopped that I can recall.

Hang on, more counter-evidential insults, nathan.

These boards are getting ugly with fact-free viciousness again.
