The Senate has cast enough votes to confirm Neil Gorsuch, a 49-year-old federal judge who could help cement a conservative majority on the bench for decades, to the Supreme Court, according to a CNN count of the vote.

Ya can’t get to 7 if ya never get to 6. Ya can’t get to 3 if you don’t have 2....You get it.
Be more like Alito and nothing like Souter, please, Justice Gorsuch. We all are praying for this.
‘Ahh, but as I said yesterday, I dont believe Trump will get the chance. These craggers wont retire if they dont like him. Theyll wait for a Democrat.”
Kennedy was a Reagan appointee, he’s almost 81, and he’s indicated he may want to retire.
Ginsberg is 84, and not in good health. She may now see the handwriting on the wall and leave because now she knows she’s in a permanent minority.
Breyer is 78 so he’s also “in the window” for either retiring or dying on the job.
Beyond that, Thomas and Alito are in their late 60’s so they will stay on for at least another ten years. So it’s really important to get the three “liberals” replaced now so no matter who follows Trump, they will not be able to affect the balance on the Court.
Now, it remains for the SCOTUS to actually get down to business and rule on the 2A and a bunch of other stuff that they’ve left around festering. They need to be as active at their jobs as is our president, and not just picking at judicial scabs, but rather doing their whole jobs.
More winning!
Thanks again to Schmuck Schemer and his fellow RAT buddies! Well get a hard right replacement for Kennedy and/or Ginsberg and all the other lower court openings. Woohoo!
Thanks again Schmuck! You da man.
Isakson from Georgia is the one who did not vote.
They will have to carry Ginsberg out.
>>cement a conservative majority
Yeah we’ll see.
Gorsuch’s church teaches the LGBT doctrine of “the Queer Christ”.
Pretty sure that’s “conservative”, not.
Like Hillary on the campaign trail?
I love how they just let her sleep rather than nudging her awake.
How they voted:
Clarence Thomas had indicated that he’s ready to get into the RV and see America. Town near Lincoln, Nebraska might be new home.
Whaddya say Chuck-U Fumer?
Isaakson is recovering from back surgery. He voted yesterday to amend the rules to overtake the Dem filibuster.
I haven’t seen a single word in this thread of appreciation to McConnell. Had he not held to a “no hearing, no vote,” position on Garland - in the midst of tremendous pressure from the Dems, news media, and some in his own party — there would have been no nomination for Trump to fill.
And, given the certainty of a Clinton win, there were many who felt that Garland should be confirmed, b/c Clinton would appoint someone worse.
McConnell took at risk, held his caucus together, and it came together. And he nuked the rules as necessary when Schumer continued to obstruct.
“They could say that next time, but they are just proving their bias this time with that comment!”
Come on, be fair: some of them are probably stupid enough actually to believe their own BS.
How long does it take to become Supreme court judge from associate justice?
Do you mean how long to become Chief Justice? There’s no time limit on that. John Roberts became Chief Justice when he became a Supreme Court Justice. He had not been an associate justice prior to that time.
According to Cspan, Gorsuch is nominated as a associate Justice on Supreme Court. I saw it this morning.
You don’t have to serve as an Associate Justice to become the Chief Justice. The Court has one chief justice and eight associate justices.
When there is a vacancy for the chief justice position, the president usually nominates a judge (or other individual) from the outside with proven leadership skills (Warren Burger, Earl Warren as examples). Occasionally, however, a president will elevate an existing associate justice to become the chief justice (Reagan w/ Rehnquist).
