BEIRUT (AP) — The United States fired cruise missiles into central Syria early Friday morning, striking an Assad government-controlled air base where U.S. officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier this week. Syrian state TV called the attack an "aggression" that lead to "losses."

About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base's airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.

Those Tomahawks are incredibly precise. Every specific target programmed has been hit tonight. Direct hits for sure. With “hardened” facilities such as bunkers etc. there’s always a question of how much penetration is needed and possible. The US Navy strike planners are certainly experts on how to destroy targets.

50 Tomahawks at $1,559,000 each, at least it was a really futile and stupid gesture.

....”Trump’s first military action is cheered & applauded by Syria’s Islamists. Bizarro world!”......

Which ones?...heck half the time they don’t know which side is which...as long as they have a gun in their hand and get paid that’s enough. They switch sides constantly ...

Trump made it clear the attack was in response to the gas attacks launched from those bases. ...so he took them out...in doing so sends lots of messages.

Keep in mind he just met with Arab leaders...and no doubt got wind of this and likely supporting....Putin was informed it was coming ahead of time as well..

The whole idea is the world leaders are not going to stand by and see Chemical weapons used.

As usual the War horses hear are celebrating and wanting him to take out all Assads bases....... which would be foolish at this point.

I’m sure we known what targets are hardened. We can fly another Tomahawk right on top of one that has already gone boom to penetrate deeper.

In 2015, the US Navy was buying 96 more Tomahawks for $82 million. Still a lot of money, but less than $1 million each:

...”All I know is that we are now AT WAR”..

No we’re not....Both Obama and Trump have been doing targeted missile strikes in Yemen and Syria and other places for a long time.....this one however has Trumps name on it. ...and was done exactly with the “promised force” he mentioned throughout his campaign. So no one should be surprised this was so.

I think it’s a great lesson to teach Assad, the Ayatollahs, the N. Korean troll, and all the world’s bad guys.

Can't read these stories without wondering how many Tomahawks are still left to use. Raytheon can always make more - maybe.

You all need to settle down a bit and think this over. Obastard pulled out of Iraq when he shouldnt have. Then low and behold here comes ISIS. They promptly expanded the conflict all over the Mid East. Somebody dropped chemical weapons for about the 20th time in Syria. Only thing is, Obastard drew his Red err Pink line in the sand and either Assad or somebody else used them to show how friggan weak Obastard was. Laughed right in our faces they did.
Russia gets involved since Obastard hasnt a clue. Why? Because Russia has a warm water Naval Base in Syria and there aint no way in hell they are gonna sit back and watch that go away-matter of fact, they signed an agreement with Syria to expand that base in Jan of this year. That is why they are supporting Assad.
Now comes Trump, they cross his line. And what the hell is he supposed to do? Sit there and watch them thumb their effn noses at us?
So some here whined when Obastard showed his pink side and did nothing, yet gripe when Trump shows there is a line and if they cross it, watch out.
Russia is not, nor will they ever give up that naval base and I dont care how GD small it is now. I bet Assad stays.
One other thing to consider. Even Hitler, one of the most evil SOBs that ever walked the earth, never used chemical weapons. Yet these C-Suckers do, and they dont care. These bastards will kill every “infidel” in the world, and then will kill each other just for practice.
BTW. Wonder where all those chemical weapons that Saddam shipped out of Iraq went to? And these weapons have to be maintained and delivered properly. So who has the know how to do that?

.....”Russia provides air defense for Assad, only they didn’t tonight!”.......

Well...Russia did say this week their support of Assad isn’t unconditional....chemical weapons crossed Putins line as well as Trumps and most other nation leaders as well.

We have 3,000+ Tomahawks. This doesn’t make a dent in the supply, although ofc we will still need to pay to replenish.

We have boots on the ground in Syria and have now attacked the armed forces of a sovereign nation. This is not some strike on stateless muzzy terrorists. This is war. And, domestically, we need to go into war mode. Squabbling can wait until after victory. For now, line up behind our commander in chief or STFU. Any other course of action gives aid and comfort to the enemy.
