BEIRUT (AP) — The United States fired cruise missiles into central Syria early Friday morning, striking an Assad government-controlled air base where U.S. officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier this week. Syrian state TV called the attack an "aggression" that lead to "losses."

About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base's airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.

“Couldn’t a B-52 with a load of dumb bombs do this.”

Planes can be shot down. Missiles, not so much.

The Bible warns about Syria in the end times and people cheer about today. So sad.

The US Navy had the vessels with the Tomahawks on site in the Med.

The mission intent was to send a message and disrupt the capability of the air field

That is a rather foolish question.

I understand that many conservatives are stuck in a historical rut, but to assume that there can be no change as a result of different circumstances is just dumb

In a prescient appearance on Fox News yesterday, a general reported we could take out all of the Syrian air fields, radar facilities and SAM sites in Syria with out any problem, all at once.

Probably, It's a small country by our standards.

Which, Looks like yesterday's action was not an attempt, by the neocon movement, to get us into another long term war, but rather, doing damage to Assad for the actual purposes that were stated.

That is important, because even though it is still an act of war, the stated reasons are something everyone can understand.

Neocon's in our congress are responsible for the death of the innocent as well, whatever is going on in their twisted money making minds, by keeping this thing going with weapon delivery, when it should have ended long ago.

I can understand Trump getting angry, but if he morphs into a neocon, it will become clearly a recognizable pattern.

If you go to Google Earth you can get a good look at the defensive strategy at that base as it looked before the bombing.

I would suggest you drop all ancillary motivation and such descriptives as NEOCON.

We are in the era of Trump. Your outdated notions are not really valid

Actually from what I have read a cruise missile isn’t that hard to intercept. They fly low so that is one challenge but they are not super-sonic and the low speed makes if possible to intercept them.

If I am incorrect someone please let me know.

That explains why Syria shot exactly zero of the missiles down then, right?

Do you have something that shows anything different than what I stated?

I was reading about cruise missiles this morning and from everything I saw a conventional cruise missile can be intercepted.
According to Air and Space Magazine F-22 pilots actually train to shoot down cruise missiles.

"...there is zero proof that there was any chemicals dropped by Syrian army planes..."

This needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

It saddens me that there are so many credulous people right here on FR.

Good for you. I submit all of what you read is likely valid & true. Doesn’t mean Syria has the means to shoot down our missiles. So far they are 0 for 60 on destroying our missiles in flight.

I agree with you.

Too many of the obama holdovers wanted us to attack Syria when obama was in office. Now they have someone else to do it for them.

ISIS clearly doesn’t play by the rules. This is exactly what they would wish for. McCain and his other warmonger pals have to be smiling.

Your statement:
“Planes can be shot down. Missiles, not so much.” = BS

Reality:
Pilots TRAIN to take down cruise missiles. = FACT

Hope that made you feel better.

Yes, missles can be shot down. So can a B52. Which would you prefer we risk? A pilot & aircraft or just a missle?

Okay fine, I’ll tell you guys what it is.

It’s the ones with either numbers or initials, or both. And the other essential attribute is the content of their message is, with regular frequency, somewhat off.
