BEIRUT (AP) — The United States fired cruise missiles into central Syria early Friday morning, striking an Assad government-controlled air base where U.S. officials say the Syrian military launched a deadly chemical attack that killed dozens of civilians earlier this week. Syrian state TV called the attack an "aggression" that lead to "losses."
About 60 U.S. Tomahawk missiles hit the Shayrat air base, southeast of Homs, a small installation with two runways, where aircraft often take off to bomb targets in northern and central Syria. The U.S. missiles hit at 3:45 a.m. Friday morning and targeted the base's airstrips, hangars, control tower and ammunition areas, U.S. officials said.

Look, I think it’s very obvious that there is overhead imagery showing the planes taking off from this airfield, using chemical weapons and coming back.
If Russia has no control, then Russia needs to get her ass out of Syria.
One thing I can prove: tonight MSNBC, McCain, Hillary, Bill Krystol, neocons like Mattis and McMaster, and the Sunni rebels are all thrilled about this.
Maybe they will be his new support base.

Russia provides air defense for Assad, only they didn’t tonight!
And some of those fighter aircraft and SAM sites are Russian. Using cruise missiles negates the need to do anything against those assets. Which makes alienating the Russians far less likely.

The situation in Syria is stable. The Tomahawks were just a message from Trump communicating that they need to get their act together. First he Tweets then he Tomahawks.
There is no change in policy. The US is not going to invade Syria.

... and they only carried 2 bombs each, so it would take 30 missions to do what these cruise missiles just did. Much better to go with the cruise missiles in this case (although expensive, but no pilots risked).

At least one source says the Israelis know the plane number, the pilots name, and exactly when he took off and when he attacked.
It also claims that attacks with chemical weapons have been happening about once a month, but they have been far less successful, which is why this one made the news.
