The new series of Doctor Who will see the Time Lord joined by his first openly gay companion. Bill Potts's sexuality will be revealed pretty much straightaway in her second line of dialogue when the show returns to BBC One on 15 April. "It shouldn't be a big deal in the 21st Century. It's about time isn't it?" Pearl Mackie, who plays Bill, told the BBC. "That representation is important, especially on a mainstream show." She added: "It's important to say people are gay, people are black - there are also aliens in the world as well so watch out for them. "I remember watching TV as a young mixed race girl not seeing many people who looked like me, so I think being able to visually recognise yourself on screen is important." "[Being gay] is not the main thing that defines her character - it's something that's part of her and something that she's very happy and very comfortable with."
Gay and bisexual characters have featured in Doctor Who before, such as Captain Jack and River Song, but this is the first time the Doctor's permanent companion has been openly gay. Although Captain Jack - played by John Barrowman - travelled with the Doctor for a number of episodes, he was not a full-time companion in the traditional sense. Mackie said it had been "kind of insane" to be the centre of attention since she was announced in the role last April, despite not being seen on screen until this Easter. "My Twitter follower count went from 400-and-something to 16,500 in about two hours, so that was pretty mental," said the actress, who is taking over from Jenna Coleman as the Doctor's companion. "But it's been really nice, everyone seems to be really excited."

With that said, I gave up Torchwood after his first gay scene and I am sick of gay characters in movies and TV creating the appearance that gay is cool and smart.
I gave up Doctor Who already because this latest Doctor is such a whiny little bitch anyway. I really expected him to go gay or “pansexual” by now.
Lesbian with a man's name. (they could have least changed her name to "Billie" so it sounded female) Ugly girl, too. The character already sounded terrible before they announced she would be "gay". I'm thinking of sitting out this season. Shame, Peter Capadi made a very interesting Doctor, but he deserves better writing than the cr@p they've currently giving him.

Christopher Eccleston was the only Doctor I actually enjoyed anyway.
I've been watching it for about the last decade or so (since 2007-2008ish during David Tennant's reign). The show's been on hiatus for a year and the last season was lousy so I was hoping this season would be an improvement. Alas, looks like a waste of time.
U.S. viewership really won't affect the show though. It's based out of the UK and they care about BBC views. Overseas audiences are just an added bonus for them.

Those Big Finish audio dramas have Tom and others in them. They are pretty good. I’ve bought a few.

We have irrational, evil “laws” since killing-baby “laws” were injected into our “Justice” (virtue) System (LOL) and now evil SCOTUS, who need to be in prison, normalized irrational “sodomy” “marriage” which allows the buying and selling of babies, the removal of Natural Rights from babies, and is forcing the normalization of the vile Vice of sodomy into a “Just” Law which is impossible. It removes Reason and Truth (God) and “Higher Laws” (Rule of Law) from our “Justice System”.
We need to return Rule of Law (Higher Laws) and eject the irrational, evil “laws” which are “null and void” anyhow. When “law” becomes evil and irrational, it will collapse culture (Cicero).

You can’t turn on the idiot box without being subjected to this perversion. Enough already. I don’t watch Doctor Who and won’t start now. We’ve stopped watching so many shows due to all the gays it’s almost not worth having tv anymore. One would think home improvement would be safe and non-political but HGTV, the Homo Gay TV, was the first channel I totally quit.
I did the same thing with “Dig.” Was pretty interesting, until the Israeli cop woke up with his boyfriend in the second episode.

I don’t watch it so I do not care what they do. I did not realize it was a t.v. program When I clicked on it. Crap such as this is why I stopped watching t.v.
I liked the old Dr. Who shows and I think Peter Davison was the last actor when I watched.
Tom Baker was the best know but there were others just as good, I really liked the series when Jon Pertwee was the Dr and he had the fellow that played the Brigadier.
