It really existed. Look up “Vorsitzer.” I once had a disk of piano pieces played by the giants of the early 20th Century on a Vorzitzer, including Gabrilowicz, Padereski, Careno and Mahler.

You, too???? It IS supposed to be Spring.

Yes, we set a record. More than 12” of WET, HEAVY snow on my deck.

Hope you don’t set any records. I’m so over winter. This morning’s drive was horribly icy.

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

LADY, BE GOOD!

PAUL WHITEMAN: “OH, LADY BE GOOD!”

Paul got first crack at the song in late 1924. This is what a Twenties dance band sounded like in an electric recording.

Paul Whiteman: “Oh, Lady Be Good!”

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

LADY, BE GOOD!

CHARLIE PARKER: “OH, LADY BE GOOD!”

They called it “Jazz at the Philharmonic” back in 1946 at a Los Angeles venue long gone. This is the full 11 minute set, and take a look at the names in this session!

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK

GEORGE GERSHWIN

LADY, BE GOOD!

ELLA FITZGERALD: “OH, LADY BE GOOD!”

Ella practically put a copyright on this song. Her scat version from 1947 is one of a kind, a Big Band treatment with cutting edge jazz.

Ella Fitzgerald: “Oh, Lady Be Good!” (1947)

Ella teamed with Satchmo in 1957 for a Gershwin live disk recorded in Los Angeles. Ella’s scat singing sounds like Louis’ horn.

Ella Fitzgerald: “Oh, Lady Be Good!” (1957)

In 1959, Ella teamed with Nelson Riddle to record the Gershwin songbook. This ballad has a dreamy feel to it.

Ella Fitzgerald: “Oh, Lady Be Good!” (1959)

Ella’s 1972 version with Basie was captured on video, and it’s amazing to see her still scat-rocking in her mid-Fifties.

Good evening, ML...((HUGS))...did your storm find you? How are your pipes? Staying thawed I hope.

Any pub activity this week?

We’ve been melting all day and NOT freezing tonight.

It’s a measure of a great song that one artist can do so many things with it.
