Braves opening day, spring break traffic through town, the ATL airport, and all of the region will be affected.

Guess this “low temperature “ fire collapsing a bridge in only an hour will put to rest World Trade Center 1/2 diameter bars sagging and failing in 2001, 9/11.

Don’t count on that.

I’m going to Macon on Saturday...
Which part of I-85 is this ???
I-75 runs into 85 for a part of the way through Atlanta...

After all isn’t it called ‘Hotlanta’?

The Twin Towers had a lot of weld joints fail where there was no underlying mechanical connection between the beams and the columns. Plus the weld design and materials were questionable.

Not a rail car...
This will take at least six weeks to fix

Just north of down town near the Cheshire Bridge Rd, Piedmont Rd exits, this is the north bound lanes but the south will be closed too pending inspections. Use 285 if possible to get to the airport.

south to Macon... will I-285 take me around the problem or is it south of there ???
To: Tennessee Nana
Near Piedmont...it is the northbound overpass. Unfortunately the fire may have impacted the south bound lanes as well. You may have to take streets to get to 20 and go around

Atlanta hasn’t had a big fire in over 150 years, they were overdue.

Take 285 to 75. 285 will take you around the problem.

A oil or chemical fire, perhaps in a rail car under the I85 bridge in downtown Atlanta...best way to avoid such tragedies - more pipelines, Obama......
To: Tennessee Nana
I-285 will work, and so will I-75. 285 will take longer, but 75 downtown might be a gridlock (not too horrible at this hour).
SR400 south from the perimeter will take you right into the middle of the mess, so don’t do that. It’s on I-85, between the 75-85 split and SR400.

It’s not on your travel path, but traffic may affect your travel path. Hard to tell what happens with traffic patterns.

It was spools of fiber optic tubing or gas line lots of spools, lots of heat. Concrete beam supporting roadway essentially blew up from the heat causing the collapse.

285 is already red across the top from 20 in the west to 20 on the east side. 75 and 85 bad from downtown out.
