Panic spreads in Iraq, Syria as record numbers of civilians are reported killed in U.S. strikes

MOSUL, Iraq — A sharp rise in the number of civilians reported killed in U.S.-led airstrikes in Iraq and Syria is spreading panic, deepening mistrust and triggering accusations that the United States and its partners may be acting without sufficient regard for lives of noncombatants.

The increase comes as local ground forces backed by air support from a U.S.-led coalition close in on the Islamic State’s two main urban bastions — Raqqa in Syria and Mosul in Iraq.

In front-line neighborhoods in western Mosul, families described cowering in basements for weeks as bombs rained down around them and the Islamic State battled from their rooftops. Across the border in Raqqa, residents desperately trying to flee before an offensive begins are being blocked by the militants, who frequently use civilians as human shields.

Throughout his election campaign, President Trump pledged to target Islamic State militants more aggressively, criticizing the U.S. air campaign for being too “gentle” and asking for a reassessment of battlefield rules. The United States has denied there has been any shift and defended the conduct of its campaign.

But figures compiled by monitoring organizations and interviews with residents paint an increasingly bloody picture, with the number of casualties in March already surpassing records for a single month.

Hmmm? According to "monitoring organizations" (code name for jihadist muslim sympathizers and enablers).

If "monitoring organizations" are complaining, then we are over target bigly! Let 'er rip!

I agree that the bombing has to be done and the country taken back despite the terrible civilian lives taken.

But I HOPE you guys don’t go by the name Christian because you’re the furthest things I’ve seen from what Christ was.

Women and kids and even men who were taken over by monsters deserve to be killed?

They weren’t taken in by the POS countries around them. Too bad?

Those silly soldiers who surrendered and had to walk the Bataan death march, was it too bad for them?

There’s an element that passes judgement easily here yet would probably faint at the sight of a hangnail.

Precise figures to this day are still unavailable, but in 1945 alone, somewhere close to 1 million Japanese were killed and wounded by our bombing campaign of the Home Islands.

Even if today's figures were true instead of propaganda, they would be laughable. Only a shrinking handful of the population knows what total war looks like.

Geez..... on just the face of it this puff piece smacks, nay reeks, of self-serving questionable motives.

Here’s the drill down litany - WaPo, Airwars.org, IBC (funded by OSF - a Soros journalist operation), United Nations something on jew hating, and on and one. There’s so much to track and enlightened everyone with it ain’t funny.

In my 30 minute wanderings for this provenance of money begging ALL of these organizations came up. The major [only source] for this article is Airwars.org (too cheap to even get a decent web page instead of Facebook, et al.) Run by ‘journalists’ who have ‘stopped reporting on Russian airstrikes to devote full time to US-led airstrikes.’ I kid you not.

Here’s my sense of the bottom line. An organization of liberal journalists who’ve found a new mission now Trump is in charge; their old funding line is going away (thus the new emphasis) and some serious money raising going on there.

This is just a third hand repackaged package of horsesh!t tripled wrapped so it doesn’t smell.

Judge for yourself, browse through the links, they are all there. They’ll lead you down a rabbit hole that will boggle your mind. If I was in charge I’d pull this fairy tale.

The headline made me wonder: Is the Left evil enough to emphasize civilian deaths to make Trump look bad, even if there is not much of a change? The answer is obvious. For any question that begins "is the Left evil enough to", the answer is "yes".

I wrote an email rant on 9/12/2001 that prominently featured a William Tecumseh Sherman quote. Out political leadership post 9/11 needed his wisdom, and ignored it.

The lack of prosecution and execution of illegal combatants is another of Dubya’s failures. It continues to adversely color this phase of the ongoing war between Islam and the West, a war that has been ongoing for nearly 1400 years.

Great investigation, analysis and summary. Kudos.

If we were serious about this war, we’d treat these people like we would have treated Tokyo Rose setting up shop in D.C.

Right. If they want to live in a village run by child raping murderers, as their personal risk avoidance measure, their decision has consequences. They might get bombed into mohammeds eternity.

All of a sudden the press is concerned about “civilian casualties” since the USA is accused of perpetrating them. I smell Fake news.

If ISIS was the culprit - no big deal...
