We Can Still Get Healthcare [insurance] Right [Rep. Dave Brat]
Facebook ^ | March 26, 2017 | Dave Brat

Rep. Dave Brat is my rep. Yesterday, he posted an article to his constituents on his Facebook page. There are a lot of rumors & "who shot John" accusations flying around, but here it is straight from a Freedom Caucus & Conservative mouth as to what happened. There are a lot of terrific comments in this article and it's well worth reading. Personally, Dave Brat speaks for me ...... it was a great day when Eric Cantor was deposed from his self-assumed throne & I am grateful every day for Dave Brat. So far he has acted in the best interests of those who have elected him instead of playing politics & he communicates well as to why he believes what he does and votes the way he does. He is also the only House member with a PhD in Economics so he has a good idea how "things" like market forces and government mandated programs work. The entire article is below.

Start by booting Ryan as speaker. His foul stench is all over this.

Thanks for posting.
My proudest vote ever was June 2014 when we Cantorized our weasel.
Unless many more districts do likewise, the swamp will never be drained.

I would add, it's Poe who has voted for full repeal-only numerous times, and it is he who has moved the goal posts.

Could be, although he may just be one of several who bravely stood for repeal when it was safe to do so and now votes to the contrary. However, IMO Poe is smart enough to distinguish between continuing negotiations and adding "Oh, by the way,..."'s before shaking on a deal.
I.e., Poe laid a serious charge vs the HFC; a charge that can influence public opinion about one or the other.

Brat's article suggests they negotiated, presumably in good faith, until Ryan pulled the plug.

So my concern is whether the HFC actually impeded negotiations by sequentially adding demands, or Poe is simply blowing political smoke.

Knowing the answer would tend to help drive-by analysts such as myself sort out the issue. Meanwhile, I am inclined to agree with most on this thread, that Ryan has a hidden political agenda and that Ocare Repeal and Replacement with private institutions could be accomplished quickly and smoothly.

Why would they exist now?

Because the free marketplace is extremely creative and responsive. The fact you had to ask the question suggests you think otherwise?

Medicaid is not part of the free marketplace because it is a gov funded enterprise and as such is one that depends on the taxpayers for its existence. If the gov's handling of those funds distorts the free marketplace that is an issue for the voters.

This may help explain why Poe is not a reliable conservative

Spot on, boss.

Also, where in the Constitution does it say employers are mandated to provide health insurance coverage?

I want to see EVERY member of the three branches of the fed govt mandated to be forced in to whichever plan they deem mandated for the taxpayers.

Medicare is by far the biggest distorter. But it’s also the easiest to deal with if you have the first clue what you are doing.

I’ve been in this racket since 1999. No one ever came up with a solution to covering pre-existing conditions during that time, even though that market was just as big.

What you are asking for is basically impossible.

You want “insurance” for people that you know are going to be sick and very sick at that.

It’s like creating a pool for car insurance for alcoholics with more than 5 DUIs.

The solution prior to the ACA was pretty simple: no coverage. You go to the hospital, you pay out of pocket, and eventually you either die or go bankrupt.

Frankly, that’s the conservative solution.

If nothing else, Obama has permanently moved the goalposts here. Everyone agrees that there should be no pre-existing conditions.

The only way to do that is to dump everyone with a pre-x in Medicare in my view.

I hope everyone on this forum sees Jim’s post. I’m amazed at how many here are even calling the conservatives that stopped this bill names. Getting mad at me and anyone else on this forum that dared to post the desire for a free market solution.

That is what I have found SO AMAZING that people on this site are so upset that this NON free market bill did NOT PASS !!!! Maybe because they are willing to back up ANYTHING that Trump wants, however regardless of Trumps tweets I am hard pressed to BELIEVE he REALLY wanted this failing bill wrapped around his neck!!!! He is up to SOMETHING that we don’t know about, the HFC saved his ass the cost of premiums and deductibles would continue to rise under Ryancare, people would have been coming after Trump with pitchforks NOW it is STILL the Dems fault!!!

I know this was years ago, but it still worked then and can work now.
Our first insurance was bought from an insurance agent. No benefits were offered with a job. The insurance we bought was called “hospitalization”... we paid for everything else out of pocket.
Dr visit was around $5 up to $25 in the 10 years I’m referring to. Prescriptions were from $5 - $10.
If hospitalization was needed for anything, the insurance paid for that, which was minimal compared to today.
We went to a doctor of our choice. Government got involved and prices skyrocketed.... and choices were from the government. I remember later, when the job offered health benefits... we thought it was great... it wasn’t. Not at their price.

When a businessman runs into obstacles, he finds ways around them.

Trump ran on “repeal AND replace”, not “just repeal”.

It doesn’t matter how many times people post it on FR, “just repeal” is not going to happen. Deal with it.
>

I\we don’t care if he promised unicorns that poop Skittles. The 3 branches play by the same rule book...the CONSTITUTION.

HINT: H’Care ain’t in the ‘rules’. Repeal is the ONLY viable/legal option.

Deal with it.

HEAR, HEAR!!! My thought exactly, Mr. JimRob! When did the promise to repeal Obamacare become “repeal and REPLACE”? This is lunacy, and all this squealing at the Freedom Caucus is nonsense! They’re the only ones who are doing what they’re supposed to do in this.

Prior to this year, the House voted to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times ---when it was clear that President Obama would veto the bill.

You can't replace something that never gets repealed...
I don't care who thinks otherwise.

It's either gone or it isn't.

People want to dress up Obama's pig and marry it
...they deserve what they're going to get.

There isn’t a person in this country who couldn’t get health insurance in the past - at the right price - all Obamacare did essentially is give some people who couldn’t or didn’t want to buy it in the past taxpayer money to make it cheaper for them - the story that any bill the Republicans had passed would have denied insurance to anyone was a lie....
