Al Franken made a strong case for himself during the Gorsuch confirmation hearings, but in a last-minute surge, his Democrat Senate colleague Kamala Harris has stolen the crown (or dunce cap) from his grasp. The magnitude of this achievement should not be underestimated: after all, Franken is a man whose distinctive competence is beclowning himself.
With this tweet, Senator Harris has achieved some sort of immortality:

Let the lady speak. The more we hear from off ‘top of her head’, the more we see she is unfit for office and somewhat vacant in the brain department.
Kamala must have some considerable study skills, to have passed the bar, but when it comes to linear logic, not so much. There is such a thing as being ‘overly nuanced’.

This - person - was not going to support Neil Gorsuch anyway, so the actual reason is immaterial. It certainly is - unique.
Legalism? The entire Constitution is a legalism? It is not people, but rules of conduct between people, that should be the concern of judgment under the law. That people conduct themselves badly at times, is no excuse for immediately demanding mercy rather than justice. Mercy comes only AFTER judgment, once it has been determined the possibility of reform exists, and the one convicted of the crime has truly shown a change of heart.
Altruism is not part of the legal code.
