Legalism? The entire Constitution is a legalism? It is not people, but rules of conduct between people, that should be the concern of judgment under the law. That people conduct themselves badly at times, is no excuse for immediately demanding mercy rather than justice. Mercy comes only AFTER judgment, once it has been determined the possibility of reform exists, and the one convicted of the crime has truly shown a change of heart.

Altruism is not part of the legal code.
