Philadelphians will soon no longer be able to purchase 2-liters or 12-packs of Pepsi soda products at local stores, according to grocers.
Managers of two independent Philly grocery stores confirmed they’d received letters from Pepsi saying the company would no longer distribute 2-liters or 12-packs to Philadelphia stores, as of March 20.

Are donuts getting crushing taxes? cupcakes? Beer? lots of calories in some of those, esp. when you drink 12.
All the fried food restaurants and store brands?
Why dont they just close down the city?
If you read through the whole story....the shop-keepers are admitting that sales is lagging, and that the trend is for consumers to shop outside of the city-limits to avoid the tax. I’m guessing they are buying in bulk now. Unless the city wants to set the cops up for confrontation to do stops of vehicles and force people with large bulk amounts to pay some fee-tax...that’s about the only way to recover the tax-money lost.
The amusing thing over this is that you might walk into some 7-11 in two years within Philly....and the only cans of soda will be these tiny 6-ounce cans...with the rest of store stacked to the ceiling with beer and wine. If you need a good sugar-fix....cheap wine works as well.
The ONLY things i’m particular about are cars and wines :)

Damn that is a great business idea for someone who wants to make a little cash. Buy the pepsi 2 liters for a buck and 12 packs for 3 bucks and sell them for 2 bucks and 5 bucks. Could make a decent profit.
So now you can smoke pot, but soda is illegal. Looks like Pepsi forgot to pay their bribes.

That’s a great idea, glad I thought of it. I’ll drive around some school after 3 pm and sell single cans of pepsi for $10 a can. But I’ll have to be careful because there probably will be a death penalty for soda dealers.

Expect border stops and inspections. Although Filthydelfia is a sanctuary city, don't expect sanctuary from the crime of soda smuggling.
Mrs. 2DV just ordered some Zitner’s, including the Butter Krak candy, from Philadelphia. So good.
Some sharp shopkeeper with a bit of time (if any have any spare time!) should monitor overall sales and see if there is a before tax(es) drop from last year, adjusted for any overall inflation, and possibly adjusted for other odd price variations (say, a sudden change in the price of milk.) My guess is that sales of smaller soda containers, which cost more per oz., would be up, raising revenue, but there might well be an overall loss.
Somebody in Philly drank the equivalent of about 32 million 12 oz. cans of sugared soda (and other such drinks) in January. The average, last year, was ~53.3 million cans (equivalent) per month. That sounds like a lot, but the latter number is just over 1 can per day, per resident.

yes, and you can still buy bags of sugar, and candy, and doughnuts, and cookies.
it is so asinine, this whole soda thing.
I stopped buying my reeds ginger ale. and now i shop at the acame outside the city just in case my juice is being taxed. I haven’t compared the prices yet. In looking for a new distributor of my reeds i have also been buying beer outside the city.
They are tearing up the local acame anyway so i started shopping elsewhere because i couldn’t buy a non organic romaine lettuce as the organic selection was about the size of my fist.
