Commentary: The NRA's gun market crisis (barf alert)
Chicago Tribune ^ | 22 mar 2017 | Firmin DeBrabander

The National Rifle Association spent a record amount to support Donald Trump's winning presidential campaign — upward of $30 million. While this investment looks wise now, recall that not long ago it was the height of insanity. Trump's campaign seemed doomed — but the NRA doubled down on its risky bet anyway, which threatened to marginalize it and undermine it politically.

I believe this bet testifies to the NRA's desperation. This sounds odd, I realize, when you consider how the gun lobby is racking up legislative victories — expanding "campus carry" and permitless concealed-carry gun laws at the state level, and making it easier for the mentally ill to access guns. But these radical moves stem from the ominous challenge that gun manufacturers rightly perceive.

...making it easier for the mentally ill to access guns.

My copy of the second amendment does not appear to bar the crazy or even freed criminals from the right to keep and bear arms. If they should not be armed, they should not be running around loose.

Tripe. A bet that paid off categorized as desperation. Had Trump lost and they'd not have bet on him, they would STILL be chastising them.

These people are the ones who are actually desperate.

This does sound odd. The gun-grabbers are getting desperate.

DeBrander issues low caliber critiques. He isn’t interested in facts, only propaganda that can support his pet issue.

You can get ‘em on eBay. If you have it linked up with PayPal, it’s only a single click. Free shipping.

I jest a bit here, but a couple of years ago, here in WA state, we had an “initiative” (I-594) to require FFL transfers for all sales, even between private individuals. Rich, out-of-state, billionaires poured money into the campaign to support the initiative. Their TV spot showed a little segment of gunbroker.com and suggested that you could just hop on there and buy a gun and have it sent to your house (completely untrue, even before the initiative).

Unfortunately, the NRA was a near no-show and there were no counter TV ads to be seen (but they DID put a bumper sticker in American Rifleman magazine!). The initiative passed and we are now infringed (we have tons of libs on the west side of our state, sigh). I know it’s been tried in other states since. Sad.

The term “mentally ill” is an incredible lie and smear. Obama and the tyrannical left defined “mental illness” as anyone who uses a fiduciary for Social Security or veterans benefits. A military veteran hero with two purple hearts and a bronze star who sought counseling after their combat tours for mild PTSD symptoms or even insomnia is labeled “mentally ill.” A person who was prescribed antidepressants, even for insomnia, is labeled as “mentally ill.” I would submit it is the left who is mentally ill. A person who does not know whether they are a man or a woman is mentally ill. A man who sticks his penis into another man's rectum is mentally ill.

Whose business plan is more viable, the firearms industry or the newspaper industry? Who will be around longer, the Chicago Tribune or the NRA?
