(NEW YORK) — Republican Sen. Rand Paul said the House GOP health care bill is unlikely to pass in Congress because there are “enough conservatives that don’t want ‘Obamacare lite.’”

The Kentucky senator told ABC News chief anchor George Stephanopoulos on “This Week” Sunday that the Republican-led Congress should repeal Obamacare in its entirety.

He says the current bill, which is set for a vote Thursday in the House, doesn’t go far enough. “They’re going to repeal part of it and leave in place all of the stuff that causes your insurance rates to go through the roof,“ Paul said.

I agree about the demographics, but Baby Boomers in their 70s aren’t the real problem here. At least they qualify for Medicare. The real problem is people in the 45-65 age group who have lost their jobs and are forced to buy very expensive insurance when they can least afford it.

“all of the agencies created by Obamacare remain”

I heard Mulvaney say that the bill begins to phase out the exchanges in a few years (after the midterms). There is a lot of misinformation out there. The obamacare regulations are only kept during a transition period.

I will believe that when someone in Congress starts quoting some numbers.

They should devise and pass a bill based on the campaign promises of Trump.

They can’t do that ... and they shouldn’t do that. A presidential candidate can’t make campaign promises for Congress.

I like Paul’s plan. It’s much better than Ryan’s on just about every issue. It get’s rid of the mandate, phases out preexisting conditions for new enrollees and expands HSAs while giving states flexibility to experiment with Medicaid dollars for all the people Trump said he would take care of.

I don’t see any other path, politically.

Why not. If he can’t make a promise for Congress, then why did he make, on numerous occasions, promises for Congress?

If he can’t make a promise for Congress, then why did he make, on numerous occasions, promises for Congress?

Because he was a political candidate running for office, and political candidates promise the voters whatever he thinks they want.

Here's how a very brief conversation between the President and Congress might go:

Trump: "We have to fund the border wall because that's what I promised during my campaign."

Congress: "WE didn't promise that to anyone. If you want a border wall, go build it yourself and call it the Great Wall of Trump."

One of the biggest complaints from the electorate is candidates don't deliver on their promises. It's one reason Trump was elected. He said he would deliver on his campaign promises.

As to the border wall, he said Mexico was going to pay for it. Other than maybe approving it, he really shouldn't have to go to congress for anything else.

"You were promised repeal and replace.”

What are they going to replace it with that is not socialized medicine?

Well, the biggest changes the bill makes is the title. Instead of Obamacare, it will now be called RINOcare.

Ah, substance.

I’m waiting for DJT to astonish me on this as he has astonished the demonrats at every turn.

Repeal the entire law, then if necessary pass something else. Get the feds out of health care!

Many have pointed out that when we are promised future “fixes”, those fixes NEVER get enacted as planned. NO SALE.

Rand Paul’s bill is a far better bill.

This is NOT about “perfection” btw. Ryan’s bill is a disasterpiece, maybe worse than ACA (no cost reductions, and Republicans get saddled with O’s signature failure), and it needs to be defeated.
