How can MORE government involvement make overall health care costs go down?

Posted on 03/19/2017 12:29:32 PM PDT by Jim Robinson

It can't. It's a lie if they say it can.

Keep the government OUT!!

Exactly. Only free market capitalism works. Trump damn sure understands business. Plus his degree is econ.

I just looked it up. Cuba has a higher life expectancy than we do.

big sigh ... my Congress critter is Charlie Crist. Hard to imagine half of the others being stupider than he is.

Got an email from Crist a couple of weeks ago, asking me to let him know if there's anything I need from him, just ask. So I write back, "Yes, there is ... please vote to repeal Obamacare." Crickets. On the positive side, maybe I'm now off his email list. On the negative side, he's probably surveilling me somehow.

Ryancare puts the cart before the horse because it chooses the Budget Reconciliation process, which cannot address the real problems with the ACA...and with Fed intrusion into personal health prior to the ACA going all the way back to WWII.

1. There is no rational reason health insurance was tied to employers.

2. There is no rational reason health insurance should be emphasized by the government over medical sharing plans and voluntary charity.

3. The word healthcare does not actually refer to health care. Taken literally, the word Healthcare means Lifestyle, diet, exercise, prayer/meditation and caring for your health. But government has made it to mean methods of paying for medical services when you don’t have health.

4. The ACA has turned highly educated medical providers into data entry clerks. They spend so much time on data entry, they have little time left to actually examine and talk with patients.

5. CMS rules and regulations of insurance companies, states that manage Medicaid and other programs, medical providers and medical consumers makes the entire process inefficient and counter-productive.

These and other problems too numerous to list cannot be solved by the Reconciliation process. Reconciliation handles taxes and spending...Budget. Absolutely no plan makes sense before addressing these other issues. Not the current ACA, not Ryancare, not anybody else’s tax and spending plan.

I understand, especially after Cruz pushed for 500% more H1-Bs and TPA passage.

You can't tell who are your friends versus your enemies from anyone who's tied to Washington.

“How can MORE government involvement make overall health care costs go down?”

Exactly. It’s an oxymoron. The more that Fedzilla gets involved, the more it costs (unless you’re on the freebie list).

Repeal, baby, repeal! Cut, baby, cut!

Well, I think that's what's happening, there is likely some "political theatre" going on, maybe some posturing, but Paul RYNO said all the right things this morning on FOX News Sunday.

Among other things, he said "return control to the states" (back to the way it was)

It appears the President has already bich-slapped RYNO, and McConnell is probably next. He seems to be the bottleneck whereas he may need to change the rules for 51 votes on future repeal actions. Other traitorous RINO Senators will also need some "talking to".

Interstate competition will allow incredible savings to some folks, others already live in the best insurance states. Tort reform has also gotta happen as well as reform of hospital billing practices.

Get your popcorn supplies laid in, Mr Trump says what he means, and does what he says.

He also has an uncanny knack for predicting the future.

Government can pay to increase the supply of Doctors and develop more competition, or import more.

Correct.

This one defunds the ACA.

Insurance companies will disagree with you as will their employees about group insurance. A company offering a group plan can get those who are uninsurable for X or y insured as it spreads the risk out. Group rates are based upon type of business (office vs assembly type, etc.) and claims/loss ratio. There are major benefits and advantages to group insurance. Insurance companies will always prefer healthy office workers vs. construction companies.

Defunding the ACA alone does not solve any health problem and it does not solve any political problem. Those who defund ACA and don't solve the other problems (or even pretend to) will then politically own the health mess. Kiss 2018 and 2020 goodbye.

Government interference into health care did not start with Obamacare.

BEFORE Obamacare 50% of the $ spent on health care were paid for by governments (medicare including drugs, Medicaid, VA, ... Obamacare just made it worse.

Do you want it defunded or not?

it does not solve any political problem.

Sure it does, the RATs can't put it back. They won't even be able to try.

They will try their damnedest to oppose any other reforms, but will look like total a-holes since the American people are sick to death of Obamacare and its consequences.

There are several "red-state democRAT" Senators up for election in 2018. How hot-to-trot do you think they are to jeopardize their chances for re-election ?

I’ve worked in insurance since ‘68, always in information and statistics, never in sales. True that BCBS, Anthem, UHC, Humana, Aetna, etal have business plans designed for the current government involvement.

But there is no reason why a State Farm which is small in insurance, or a new start up, can’t have a different business plan... a plan more like auto and homeowners insurance.

Somehow, the P&C companies are quite capable of spreading the risk without employer involvement. They could do the same for health insurance.

Somehow the medical sharing (non-insurance) groups that have sprung up under the ACA are quite capable of spreading the risk without employer involvement.

The current health insurance business model of BCBS types is built on government favoritism toward them. It is not an efficient business model.

I like the simplicity of your plan, but the math doesn’t work. 30 million people * $1 million fund = $30 TRILLION dollars.

Now granted that $1 million is over a lifetime and most wouldn’t spend that much. But then what do you do, if they exceed $1 million?

If you reinstated the old anti trust laws where providers couldn’t charge one person more than another for the same service, that would bring rates down.

Right now Hospitals charge 4 to 5 times what they actually get. 80% of the charge is written off do to contractual agreements with insurance companies.

That’s one of the reasons a fund wouldn’t work, is because it would get hit with 5x actual charges.
