The owner of a sushi restaurant is in hot water for a Facebook post in which he complains about Hispanics being bad tippers.
"My servers are thinking about building a wall around the restaurant," Steve Wayte reportedly wrote in a now-deleted Facebook post. "Why don't many Hispanics tip? Really? Zero, Ziltch, Nada."

Hispanics are generally cheapskates, that’s why.
Every year our small town holds a ‘Citywide Garage Sale’ and hordes of people in our metro area descend upon our small town.
Hispanics want you to practically give them the stuff you are selling. They always try to haggle and offer very little. They are generally rude and entitled as well.
I hate doing business with them myself.

Mexicans tip great in cabs. I drove one. I think it made them feel like big shots.

Do Mexican restaurant patrons tip in Mexico? I suspect that they do, so why can’t those who come here also “tip”? It helps the lower wage earners make more of a living, and most of the kitchen help that I have seen are Hispanics.

No, I'd never say that, but sometimes I felt like it. Between college students and Mexicans, I appreciated whatever I got, and let them know that.

I understand that in Mexico and several other ? South American countries, it is not expected to tip your taxi driver.
I have learned, as a taxi driver, that a disproportionate amount of Mexicans/Central Americans/maybe South Americans don’t tip.

They are not used to eating at a place with service. You know the saying: “a Mexican breakfast is a cigarette and a glass of water.”
Can't imagine either. A couple decades ago when working in an IT group of about ten people, there was one black woman who refused to tip. It made group outings to restaurants difficult and tense; and we made frequent trips to restaurants. Got to the point where most of us refused to go if the black woman was included, and she was the only black in the group. She quit within 6 months of hire, made it easier on us. Did not encounter this with other blacks. Not tipping is plain rude.
He may very well be correct, but dumb business move... Fresno is majority Hispanic. Heck, I’d be surprised if most of his staff complaining about the tipping weren’t Hispanic as well... wouldn’t that be a hoot. I may have considered supporting this business if it weren’t for the fact that is sushi in Fresno!

shoulda put a sock in it, dude. running a business is about turning a profit.
The solution is obvious. Put a sign on the door saying no tipping allowed then raise the prices 15% across the board and pay the waitstaff 15% for the total of sales they took in for the night. Simple.

Tipping is micro-cultural. There are thin-slice segments of the population who just don’t think about it. And that is the key; they don’t think about it.
Mormon men, for instance, do not tip. The first Saturday night in April and October they all go out to eat, leaving great heaps of rubbish and no tips. My daughters are servers and have stories to tell. It’s practice for when they own their own planets.
