FACT: ObamaCare was passed, using the original legislative vehicle, at 1:38am on 12/23/09 with 60 votes in the Senate. The House then approved that Senate Bill without changes; and in February 2010 created a secondary bill which created the opportunity for the Senate to modify ObamaCare using reconciliation for a lower vote threshold of 51 votes.
[Understand the full construct by reading HERE] If you do not understand how legislation is created; if you do not understand the difference between the Senate and House; if you do not understand the way ObamaCare was created, you really need to read this first.
A clean repeal bill, meaning a law to repeal the entire ObamaCare construct only, would require another 60 vote hurdle in the Senate.
Republicans, while in the majority, only control 52 seats. Without 8 Democrats voting to approve a repeal bill, any House (Or Senate) bill that repeals ObamaCare cannot pass the Senate.
This is why Mark Levin is a con-man; selling snake oil as outrage to keep a listening audience angry, yet clueless and hopeless. Thats what I dont like.
A complete repeal of ObamaCare is currently impossible. The House Freedom Caucus can push all the repeal bills they want, but they cannot get a repeal bill through the Senate because they cannot get the 60 votes needed. Period.
A complete independent repeal bill of ObamaCare is currently impossible.

REPEAL. PERIOD.
This bill does not repeal.
They couldn’t block it
I apologize.
I was wrong.
The 2016 Bill was not a full repeal.
It basically did what the current proposal is doing - it removed\relaxed anything funding related.
It seems lately, the only thing I’m doing is inserting my other foot in my mouth.
I’ll shut up now.
On that we agree. I'd be happy just to go back to what I had pre-ObamaCare. Cross-state competition and tort reform (which, since ObamaCare have been the go-to GOP replies to, Well, what is your proposal?) would be a bonus. But, strangely, now that we have control of the House, Senate and White House, those simple, common-sense proposals are MIA.
None of what Ryan/Price is proposing is even remotely pro-market or deregulation. And Price should know better. In fact, it's Obamacare on a crony-capitalist tip rather than a pure socialist one.
I understand where Trump is coming from. Believe me, I know that Trump is not a conservative ideologue who will never get perfect scores from the ACU. But that's precisely why he won. Because the "conservatives" haven't done squat when they held power.
Here we have a unique opportunity to completely remake healthcare and get it out of the Democrats' and Fedgov's hands. Remember, healthcare is the Left's Holy Grail. With Obamacare, they control the people. We have got to have this fight - why does the Fedgov need to be involved in people's healthcare.
What Price should do is hire that former New York State Lt. Gov Betsy (I forgot her last name) and make her a Czar or under-secretary of HHS and let her dismantle Obamacare. Because she know the law by heart. Every single chapter and that stupid flow-chart of it.
If they pay out of pocket they get that money back. It doesn't matter if they work at Burger King.
I agree.
Nancy Ryan and his pale pastels has no intention of repealing ACA.
You said: “Medicaid expansion is a separate issue that has NOTHING to do with ACA repeal.”. From that statement I concluded you did not know that Medicaid expansion was part of the ACA.
I could have been more clear.
Why not repeal ACA and pass a separate bill to expand Medicaid?
Well, I’ll say this much. We agree that RyanCare is a steaming heap of caca. I don’t know the answer except that we need free markets and competition to reduce costs. We do not need subsidies or fedgov telling people what will be in their insurance policies.
Clearly Ryan and McTurtle have no intention of repealing ObamaCare (although I had hope). My concern now is how far does President Trump want to go with it? Accept a “technical” repeal of ObamaCare and chalk it up as a win, or put the screws to them until they produce a truly free-market, get-FedZilla-out-of-it bill?
Trump hasn’t let me down yet. To the contrary, he has exceeded expectations so far. But ObamaCare was Issue #1 in the election, and here is where the rubber meets the road.
Obamacare passed the Senate with 60 votes - no Republicans voted for it: https://www.senate.gov/legislative/LIS/roll_call_lists/roll_call_vote_cfm.cfm?congress=111&session=1&vote=00396
THIS!! Bump
Use the bully pulpit along with every GOP rep to SELL the American people for full repeal. Pound it every day. Run national ads. Vote every week. Pressure democrats to own this turd every week. Lather, rinse, repeat.
Eventually we can peel off a few Dems.
Look, let’s make it simple.
Obamacare can’t be repealed because the pro-repeal forces don’t have the votes. And if 51 votes in the Senate would do the job, they STILL don’t have the votes.
The two most popular parts of PPACA - pre-existing condition coverage and coverage as a child to age 26 - are untouchable. Expanded Medicaid (without tax increases) is almost as popular. Once you concede you will sell someone fire insurance after their house burns down, you will need a funding mechanism.
So, if the House Republicans have 218 votes for “clean repeal” (I doubt they do), but they keep pre-existing conditions and 25-year old children (because they must) then the economic death spiral leading to nationalization will worsen. But even at that, I doubt there are 30 votes in the Senate for a clean repeal.
To move forward, someone who is profiting from the status quo has to get it in the neck - and I think, after the political process plays out, the Ryan bill fails and Trump’s popularity falls as a result, it is the insurance companies that will be walking the plank.
Medical and hospital care paid for by other people’s money, however collected and however paid out, is fundamentally a political issue. As long as the government takes from you and gives to me to pay my bills, you will want a say in how the money is spent.
Medicare and Medicaid both, in different ways, promised to pay without limit for all medical and hospital services for people covered by them that could reasonably be expected to produce a benefit. Paying without limit with other people’s money is a nice idea, but, as we see, in practice it is unsustainable.
One way or another (presuming our form of government survives), the state must be able to produce a budget for what it will spend on health services. Under the assumptions that govern Medicare, Medicaid, Obamacare, the refugee programs, and others, this is impossible.
Something has to give. I agree with (and pray daily for the survival of) some free market aspects in health care, but the only way this is going to happen is with a national single payer universal basic coverage scheme with a private option.
Obamacare will not survive. Romney-Ryan care can’t pass. Full-on user pays will close most hospitals and practices within a few months.
I believe Trump will propose a single-payer scheme after Ryancare collapses. I hope he sees the wisdom of a private option. But, one way or another, single-payer will be a reality.
Read the article. We don’t have 60 votes in the Senate to completely repeal & replace Ocrapcare. Read about the bills the GOPe passed that claimed to repeal Ocrapcare that only defunded it. Understand why with less than 60 votes in the Senate this can only be done via the reconciliation process.
Being informed is always better than not.
I STRONGLY DISAGREE, PRESIDENT TRUMP CAN FORCE THE ISSUE
And the President can FORCE A BIPARTISAN BILL to Repeal Obamacare.
There is ONLY ONE WAY to make it happen:
Executive Orders
1. All waivers to the Affordable Care act are hereby repealed.
2. There shall be NO funds drawn from the treasury to pay for Health Insurance for ANY Federal Employee except Members of the Armed Services.
3. ALL Federal Employees except members of the US Armed Services, SHALL purchase their own personal and Family Health Insurance from the Affordable Care Exchange in the state they legally reside.
And to make sure it is Bipartisan, President Trump should VETO it every Time and FORCE them to Override his Veto to Repeal this Monstrosity.
Sign these 3 orders and it will be FULLY REPEALED in Less than 30 days.
NOT UNTIL, Anyone want to make a BET???
I would also consider another Executive Order Withholding All Transportation Funds from All States that do Not have Their Public Employees enrolled in Obamacare, just to Prove a Point.
When and ONLY WHEN Government Lives under the Same Laws as us will anything substantial happen
I AM TAKING BETS that the Rino Party Will NEVER REPEAL OBAMACARE!
