Republicans in Maine, Utah want Trump to undo monuments
San Fracisco Chronicle ^ | Sunday, March 5, 2017

Republican leaders in Maine and Utah are asking President Donald Trump to step into uncharted territory and rescind national monument designations made by his predecessor.

The Antiquities Act of 1906 doesn't give the president power to undo a designation, and no president has ever taken such a step. But Trump isn't like other presidents.

Former President Barack Obama used his power under the act to permanently preserve more land and water using national monument designations than any other president. The land is generally off limits to timber harvesting, mining and pipelines, and commercial development.

Obama created the Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument in Maine last summer on 87,500 acres of donated forestland. The expanse includes part of the Penobscot River and stunning views of Mount Katahdin, Maine's tallest mountain. In Utah, the former president created Bears Ears National Monument on 1.3 million acres of land that's sacred to Native Americans and is home to tens of thousands of archaeological sites, including ancient cliff dwellings.

Trump's staff is now reviewing those decisions by the Obama administration to determine economic impacts, whether the law was followed and whether there was appropriate consultation with local officials, the White House told The Associated Press.

Maine Republican Gov. Paul LePage is opposed to the designation, and says federal ownership could stymie industrial development; and Republican leaders in Utah contend the monument designation adds another layer of unnecessary federal control in a state where there's already heavy federal ownership.

The Antiquities Act of 1906 doesn't give the president power to undo a designation

Does it say he can't do it?

NONSENSE. That omission does NOT equal a prohibition. Trump can rescind ANY executive order or designation he pleases.

But Trump isn't like other presidents.P<> Damn right. He's not an Illuinati puppet like Bushes 41/43 or a Marxist traitor like Obama.

supposedly- the ruling that allows monuments to be made does not allow for undoing a monument once it’s created- or soem such nonsense-

So with that in mind, I as president would simply make a NEW monument with regulations attached that allow drilling, lumber harvest- mining etc

My beef is that he renamed Squaw Creek National Wildlife Refuge in SE Nebraska, Loess Bluffs. Loess is pronounced “loose” and Mr. Mercat thinks it should be Loess Buttes.

This isn’t an executive order, it’s actually legislation passed by Congress.

What’s the name of the monument Clinton created after a huge bribe from the Riady family, locking up zillions of tons of low-sulphur coal? There’s another one Trump could undo.

And oddly, the Wikipedia article regarding the “monument” makes no reference to coal, the bribes, or Riady.

As if it never happened.

1. If the Act doesn't specifically prohibit the President from undoing or modifying the Act, then why not give it a go?

2. If Congress created the Act, then Congress can repeal it, or modify it.

3. Maybe President Trump can do one of those "legal findings" that Odumbo used to justify letting Moslems into America and putting them on a fast track to citizenship. Maybe President Trump can "find" that the legislative branch did not intend to limit the Executive Branch if time and circumstance demonstrated a need for such modification, or that the States have a valid claim of fair use for the lands within their borders, and that exceptions can be made for economic growth.

Grand Staircase - Escalante national Monument is what BJ Clinton put off limits to clean coal mining, so that the Riaddys of Indonesia (who gave BJ $100,000s) now have a monopoly on clean coal. The Clintons were always willing to sell out US interests in exchange for their own personal gain (political or financial).

President Trump should undo every single executive order from the usurper. No exceptions. That includes national monuments.

Either test it with an EO to udue or use our majority to have our spineless congress amend the damn law

Then for good measure rescind clintons gift to the big money donor in Singapore or some such where he decreed as a landmark an area of Arizona IIRC that contained the only deposit of very clean coal not already owned by said Singaporean
