Trump flashes anger over Sessions recusal, Russia stories in tense Oval Office meeting

Before heading off to his so-called "winter White House" in Palm Beach, Florida, on Friday, President Donald Trump summoned some of his senior staff to the Oval Office and went "ballistic," senior White House sources told ABC News.

The president erupted with anger over the latest slew of news reports connecting Russia with the new administration -- specifically the abrupt decision by Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from investigations into Russian meddling in the 2016 campaign.

Sources said the president felt Sessions' recusal was unnecessary and only served to embolden Trump's political opponents. The attorney general made his announcement Thursday just as Trump returned to Washington from a trip to the U.S.S. Gerald Ford in Virginia for a speech about his agenda as president.

Hours earlier, aboard the ship, the president had told reporters that he had "total" confidence in Sessions and saw no reason why the attorney general should recuse himself.

“We should have had a good week. We should have had a good weekend. But once again, back to Russia," a senior White House official said, expressing the frustration simmering in the West Wing following the news earlier in the week that Sessions failed to disclose during his confirmation process that he had met with the Russian ambassador twice during the election campaign. Sessions at the time was a senator on the Armed Services Committee and was also helping the Trump campaign.

Among those gathered in the Oval Office on Friday: Chief of staff Reince Priebus, chief strategist Stephen K. Bannon, White House Counsel Don McGahn, press secretary Sean Spicer, newly-hired Communications Director Mike Dubke, along with Trump son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner and his wife Ivanka Trump, the sources said.

Does anyone even remember Trump's great address to Congress Tuesday night?

Didn't think so.

When was the last time this country had an Attorney General who was a "fighter?"

Get real. The U.S. Attorney General can't carry himself like any other administration official -- including the President. He's a lawyer first and a political figure second.

That was my first thought also,

I said why is President Trump playing their game with having Sessions recuse himself, that’s ridiculous? As if hes just another NWO bench warming Bush spawn fool occupying the Oval office,

So it appears he wasn’t playing along,

Sessions either thinks Trump is a weak-kneed RINO type and takes it as if a serious inquiry any rabid fevered brain idea the Democrats can dream up, any mud they can sling to stick on the wall must be answered in all seriousness,

Or he knows something more that we don’t,

Very poor judgement,

My question exactly.

Yeah, they were fighters. Who were they fighting against?

You're comparing Trump's attorney general with two morons who would have been selling used cars for a living had it not been for affirmative action in this country.

You might as well use Rosie O'Donnell as a measuring standard for supermodels.

As to the Sessions recusal, he already told the Senate committee in his confirmation hearings that he would recuse himself from anything that came up about the campaign.

I don’t remember his exact words, but it was along those lines.

So that wasn’t new and had already been given away, and was probably in order to get confirmation from the McCain-Graham group.

I don’t believe this story, unless it was Trump faking them out again.

It was reported ABC? got a long-range camera and hired lipreaders to watch the Oval Office.

It’s hard to believe Sessions would not discuss this with Trump before speaking on such an important issue. Hold the tongues, and follow the story. This might be a Trump ploy. A cat has a habit of poking the mouse before it is consumed. If I were BO’B, at this moment I’d be on my knees....praying for intervention of some type. Trump is sly as a fox as well as thinking moves ahead of his opposition. My money is on DJT and BO’B will take on water, if not completely go down in rapid fashion.

From what I heard him say in his press conference, Sessions only recused himself from investigations of Russian interference in the election during the campaign.

Now that he has recused himself, the Senate needs to move on approving his deputy AG before the Obama acolyte that's the deputy now, takes charge of the investigation.

There's nothing to stop Sessions from investigating Obama for illegally-wire-tapping Trump Tower before the election. Or Hillary's email scandal. Or the Clinton Foundation scam.

But to investigate anything, there has to be some evidence that a crime was committed. You can't just go after your political enemies willy-nilly.

Whatever evidence Trump has that caused him to Tweet these allegations against Obama, may be enough but we don't know what that evidence is yet, do we?

Holder was "fighting" against the House Committees and Lynch against the lily livered GOP.

Yes AA had a lot to do with where both Holder & Lynch are today, but neither are complete "morons".

I made a prediction here on Mar 1 that Sessions would be forced out by the end of next week (Mar 10). I think he’s going under the bus like Flynn.
