Students aim to make feminine hygiene products more accessible on campus (James Madison University)
The Breeze (JMU Student Paper) ^ | March 2, 2017 | by Anthea Liu

Despite calendars or tracking apps, sometimes mother nature has other plans in mind. Students can get their period and be without necessary products. Instead of just texting friends for tampons, one JMU student is fighting for accessibility.

Just like the majority of JMU’s female students who experience this situation, Magi Linscott must endure a week of unpleasantness every month — her period. As a member of the female community at JMU, Linscott understands how it feels when there’s an urgent need for menstrual supplies, but they aren’t always readily available.

“Every girl has ruined a chair at least once in their life, or they’re going to ruin a chair,” said Linscott, a public policy and administration and writing, rhetoric and technical communication double major.

Linscott is the initiator of the “Free the Tampon” advocacy. This advocacy is aimed at making menstrual hygiene products more accessible and free across JMU’s campus.

“There is this weird trend of period shaming and, like, this stigma around periods in general, which to me makes absolutely no sense,” Linscott said. “It’s a basic biological process that I don’t think anyone should be ashamed about.”

Linscott noticed that there’s a lack of accessibility to menstrual products on campus, and although there are a couple places that sell them on campus, the prices can be pretty high.

Ok, prepare to be disgusted.. Looks like they're lying about something else to get attention for yet another agenda.

Yogi who wants to stop period shame: discussion is ‘met with hate & disgust’

Period shaming, fat shaming, slut shaming, rape culture blah blah lie blah.

I should add: it was a moderately dressy restaturant, and it was decades ago. She had a pretty skirt on, and a fairly short skirt at that.

If she'd been wearing slacks it would have been a whole different story, likely with a different ending.

Before the divorce a few years ago, I told my nagging and shrill wife to “jam a f*cking cork in it.”

She actually thought I was referring to the bottle of wine she was about to smash over my head.

Both my daughters went to college, one lived on campus, and the other lived at home. Both supplied their own pads and tampons for as long as I can remember, probably starting with their first part time job. Though I always had extra stored away. Why some folks can’t supply their own needs and way through life is beyond me. Granted there should be a store that the product can be purchased and of course today, a woman could set up online for the purchase of a monthly delivery of pads and tampons to their campus or home mailbox. Expectations of free stuff causes folks to be short sighted, they forget nothing is free, the money to pay for something comes from somewhere, and it might be that new tax they don’t like.

That’s gotta be it. Guess I imagined those two pregnancies, labor and deliveries. Must have really vivid imagination. That first labor/delivery was a doozy! ;-)

I’m not sure how I’m gonna break this news to Hubby though. He’s gonna be surprised, for sure.

Its a solution looking for a problem.

Actually, it's an attempt to get yet another handout:

This advocacy is aimed at making menstrual hygiene products more accessible and free across JMU’s campus.

What is the real deal? The real deal is mostly about women who are too lazy to figure out when their next period should start, + or - 3 days. They are ignorant of the body’s functions due to lack of education.

It is not hard to put tampax or small mini-pads in a purse and keep them there for the non-deluge that will take place; amounts vary from a median of 30cc to a high of 50cc. Some women do have heavier periods than others. They, too, can prepare and carry the preparation in their purse or fanny pack or book sack/backpack.

This woman is very fragile, a possible snow flake, I’m betting. And sees others like herself.

It is simply another diversion and/or substitution for what remains of academic instruction.

Doesn’t James Madison University have a CVS, Walgreens or RiteAid that sells Tampons nearby? USF campus in Tampa has Walgreens, CVS, WalMart, Target and grocery stores... Is Tampa different than Harrisonburg?

“Every girl has ruined a chair at least once in their life ..."

Yeah, maybe when they're 13 and just discovering the "visit from Aunt Flo." But if they have the maturity of an acorn, they soon figure out that it's probably wise to carry some extra gear in a pocket or purse. By time they're oh, 14 or so ... they've probably got that little embarrassment handled.

Unless they're liberals, in which case, they never get past the mental age of about 8 or 9 ... which explains a lot.
