An internal White House strategy review on North Korean options includes the possibility of both military force and regime change to counter the countrys nuclear-weapons threat, the WSJ reports, a prospect that has some U.S. allies in the region on edge. The review comes amid recent events have strained regional stability including last month's launch by North Korea of a ballistic missile into the Sea of Japan, and the assassination of the estranged half brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Malaysia.
The WSJ adds that U.S. officials have underscored the possible military dimensions of their emerging strategy in recent discussions with allies, suggesting that the planning is at an advanced stage.
President Trump has taken steps to reassure allies that he wont abandon agreements that have underpinned decades of U.S. policy on Asia, his pledge that Pyongyang would be stopped from ever testing an intercontinental ballistic missilecoupled with the two-week-old strategy reviewhas some leaders bracing for a shift in American policy. During Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abes two-day summit in February with Mr. Trump, U.S. officials on several occasions stated that all options were under consideration to deal with North Korea, according to a person familiar with the discussions.
It was clear to the Japanese side that those options encompassed a U.S. military strike on North Korea, possibly if Pyongyang appeared ready to test an ICBM. The Japanese side found that scenario worrisome, he said.
The proposal emerged roughly two weeks ago, when Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland convened a meeting with national-security officials across the government and asked them for proposals on North Korea, including ideas that one official described as well outside the mainstream.
The request was for all options, ranging from U.S. recognition of North Korea as a nuclear state to military

This will be a war that will never happen.
The fat pig will die and China will annex the Norks.
I suspect we have been exploring military options and regime change in North Korea since the ceasefire in 1953.
Having done my time in, I’m sure the military has military options for every country/region on earth and updated as necessary. Seems to me to be another story to show Pres Trump as a warmonger, when all he’s getting done is updating existing plans already on the books. If there is not a plan, he would be derelict in his duty as President to not get one done. Can’t imagine how these so called journalist can even walk over to file their story with their panties so bunched and knotted up over a non story.
That’s my personal opinion. Anything that turns up on the launch pad gets knocked right off the launch pad.
We should have nuked this bastard’s grandpa back in 1950, before the Chinese and Russians had nukes. Like all problems they just turn into bigger headaches if you don’t deal with them early.
Personally I would not hesitate to nuke this guy and send a message to other despots. The Chinese are not going to start a nuke war to protect this d-bag.
The last thing we should do is take some sort of limited action, which will just piss him off and invite a counter-strike. Either take him out properly or don’t do it at all.
Bingo. They are called contingency plans. Probably have one for the invasion of Newfoundland in case they ever get out of line.
There are DoD contingency plans for everything. There’s probabaly a contingency plan on the shelf for invading Antarctica.
What you said.
The United Nations (UN) has been at war with North Korea and Communist China since 1950. No peace treaty has been signed. Only a ceasefire has been agreed to.
Bad does not begin the describe how wrong this would be.
Exactly!
One big problem. The Norks have 30,000 rockets aimed at Seoul South Korea. Less than 40 miles away.
Well, since everyone is leaking classified stuff, somebody should leak the North Korean target list, I am sure that would keep Fat Boy in line.
Let me say that you need “contingency” plans for every scenario. Contingency plans are just that. That does not mean they will ever be used.
Sooner or later, North Korea is going to implode.
The only question anybody need ask is whether or not they’ll launch when that happens.
Maybe, maybe not. This is the kind of thing that works better than Viagra for the likes of McInsane and Gramnisty.
Can't see that they'd be opposed to the idea.
Fat Man Bomb
This is just talk....
Unverified to boot.
The Chinks are going to have to deal with the NorKs, they created and enabled it.
Sounds like another “leaked” memo from the White House to screw up the “media’s” heads.
Tongil!
