President Trump may urge lawmakers to pass a compromise immigration reform bill during his speech to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night..
Trump told a group of television anchors he believes a major immigration bill is necessary but would require Republicans and Democrats to make significant trade-offs.
"The time is right for an immigration bill as long as there is compromise on both sides," Trump said, according to CNN's Jake Tapper.
Trump envisions a proposal that would allow some undocumented immigrants to live and work in the U.S. without fear of deportation, but would stop short of offering them a pathway to citizenship.
Such a move would be a departure from the hardline stance on illegal immigration Trump has taken thus far in his presidency.
At Trump’s direction, the federal government adopted strict new rules intended to ramp up deportations of immigrants living illegally in the U.S.
He also handed down an executive order temporarily banning travel and immigration from seven Muslim-majority nations, which was later blocked by a federal court. Trump has said he will unveil a new proposal soon.
Three of the guests who are sitting in first lady Melania Trump's box for the president's speech to Congress are relatives of people killed by undocumented immigrants.
Pushing for a comprehensive reform bill could anger Trump's base, which favors a get-tough approach on illegal immigration. But Trump reportedly believes he could make both sides happy.
Trump flirted with a comprehensive immigration bill earlier this month, when he told a group of bipartisan senators he was interested in them working on a bill.

The devil is in the details; I’ll bet it would be hard to prove a long work record and one would probably have to pay back taxes. And that, sounds a bit like the gang of 8 bill but at least, citizenship is denied.
Well, that strong stand did not last very long.
Can I get a pass on not paying income taxes? I work hard and want a better life, and if tens of millions get a pass on breaking the law, then where is my free pass?
We need immigration law enforcement and the border wall. Trump should use his power to enforce existing law and not fool around with Congress and any sort of comprehensive bill at least until the laws have been enforced for one full presidential term.

1-Secure the Border and deport anyone one who crosses it. Build The Wall and have a more visible armed presence.
2-Eliminate all Santuary nonsense. An Illegal gets arrested and booked at the Police station, he is held and ICE is called.
3-Deport all illegal criminals- Fellons and misdeamors
4-Create everify system for employers and fine employers that hire illegals or do not check.
5-Create Visa tracking system and deport anyone who over stays
6-Lastly create legal status and path to Citizenship for the Dreamers and others if they kept their nose clean towards #3 above

The Democrats won’t ever do a deal on immigration. They want this problem to exist in politics, not go away.
No new laws to benefit those breaking the current ones.
We did that in 1986 and got 10 times the number of illegal aliens.

Unfortunately, if this story is true, Trump will be sorry and our country indelibly changed by letting young people most already radicalized by their parents and others in the culture who think Mexico owns the Southwest because the horrible Americans stole it. They will continue their radicalism with the blessing of really ignorant like Trump and unconcerned people in love with power like most in Congress. Do not make the same mistake Reagan did.
Most Dreamers have a legal right to go to school in their own country and can apply for education visas in the U.S. from there while living with the deported parents.
Hard hearted? Not if you think of them as stealing the dream from legal American residents, mostly Gringos they disrespect.
Cannot believe Trump will fall for this.
No Art of the Deal needed to follow through on the clear promises he made to his supporters an uncountable number of times. Just enforce existing law and build the wall.

Anticipating a bill that will displease many from both sides. But the best bill we’ll see in our lifetime will likely be one from President Trump.
My guess:
- Dreamers stay
- Long-timers stay
- Criminals deported - zero tolerance
- Some type of temporary work visas for the remainder.
- no undocumented, no freeloaders, workers are taxed.
- strict felonies for employers gaming the system.
