Former U.S. president George W. Bush said Monday that a free press was 'indispensable to democracy' during his two White House terms hinting that he disagrees with President Donald Trump's assessment of some reporters as 'the enemy of the people.'
'We need an independent media to hold people like me to account,' Bush said on the 'Today' show.
'I think power can be very addictive, and it can be corrosive, and it's important for the media to call to account people who abuse their power, whether it be here or elsewhere.'

Indeed, it's corroded what was already your pea brain you contemptible piece of garbage.
8 years of a hostile press giving it to Georgie from behind and he's in love with his abuser like a 15 year old prostitute in love with her pimp, pathetic.
It certainly clarifies his reasons for never defending himself in the press. Evidently he never saw it as "These bastards are making up crap about me and my admin to make me look bad!" He only saw it as "How can I make them love me?"
Yes, he was so weak against the media I think he would have lost the GOP primaries if a sitting POTUS could run a third time. They were his avowed enemy, operating as the Democrats virtual media arm and he never admitted it.
GW Bush has the mental syndrome, the Stockholm Syndrome that occurs sometimes after someone has endured long term capture by an enemy. He got beaten to hell by the media so often, he now sees himself allied with them.
NO MORE BUSH's
George W Bush was never a conservative to begin with. In retrospect, I'd have to say he's a left leaning centrist, at best.
One thing is certain; he's never been one of us. Despite his obvious love for the country, he seems to be clueless as to the bedrock principles which make America the unique place that it is.
In my view, this is why he's so easily swayed by liberal ideas and idealism.
Because Rush is a Republican first, and a conservative second. I love the guy, but he's not a deplorable.
Too bad RR chose GHWB as his VP...
The third one would've been Great! But, alas and oy vey -- His Kingdom is not of this world. Not to worry, though, He has a deep-state Kingdom if His own going on in some people's hearts and souls, and (wait for it) one day the kingdoms of this world will become the kingdoms of our Lord.
completely lmao...I was laughing so much my dog came running in from the back deck to check on me...
He even defended the Dubai Ports Deal.
The Bushes hate Trump and would do and say anything that would hurt him. To hell with the country so long as they can ‘appear’ to be superior. that is why Bush (both of them) failed
Did Trump ever call them the enemy?
Where was Bush when Obama was demanding only certain kinds of questions and reporters, corrupting the press?
Obama is the enemy of the press and he has done a good job destroying it as the democrat party is destroyed and on its way to radical terrorism as a result.
Is Bush defending Democrat terrorists and islamic terrorists who kill American soldiers?
I am sick of the Bush image narcissism at the expense of the country indeed.
Since when don’t we have a free press?
Many people have died because this man would not speak up.
Go along to get along has killed and wounded hundreds of thousands.
Too bad RR chose Sandra Day O’Connor and Anthony Kennedy too!
Absolutely perfect analysis of GWB!
George P. is still their light to the future, and TX Republicans tend to stick with friendly incumbents.
