Good evening, teenie...((HUGS))...thanks.
I am so glad the weekend finally got here....the up and down temps have played havoc today with the roads....they are sloppy wet today, but will freeze over night.
Is your storm still coming? Effect you?

THE GREAT AMERICAN SONGBOOK
COLE PORTER
KISS ME, KATE
LEE WILKOF & MICHAEL MULHEREN: BRUSH UP YOUR SHAKESPEARECole writes a waltz with equal parts vaudeville and Gilbert & Sullivan. This is a concert performance with the two actors from the 1999 Broadway revival recreating their roles.

He was just about the only person back then that anyone knew about that used that time signature. It had to be a hard one to play! He was a genius!

A few years later, Lalo Schifrin would write the “Mission Impossible” theme in 5/4.

Casting my thoughts on a simpler time - 1959 - when the World was entirely different from what it is today.

As I pointed out years ago on these threads, if you watch that picture carefully today, you can see how 20th Century Fox was pushing the things that would mark the Sixties. In some ways it’s a propaganda piece aimed at fomenting social and sexual change.

OUT OF THIS WORLDIn 1950, Out of this World ran for a few short months and then died. The critics found it campy and vulgar.
VAUGHN MONROE: FROM THIS MOMENT ONThe show had one hit tune until it was tossed because the male lead couldnt handle it. It was interpolated into the MGM movie version of Kiss Me, Kate and would become a staple of Muzak and elevator music FM radio.
In 1951, the baritone with hair on his chest tackled this tune with the backup band from his night club outside Boston.

Ahhh....I liked that one, too! But I didn’t realize it was 5/4. it didn’t get the celebrity that Brubeck got for it.

Schifrin’s music was so important to the show that the producers had the footage edited to match the music.
