I barely made it through the Hobbit films. I probably would have loved them if they'd simply followed the book, but by padding the story into three films in an attempt to make The Hobbit as epic as Lord of the Rings they lost me. All they did was add endless Orc battles to each film. I think if they edited the films down to 1 or 2 films they'd have something. To me they were yawners. I can't imagine what the "extended editions" must be like.
Loved the LOTR trilogy, though. A bit of padding there, too (notably in The Two Towers), but over-all, quite well done.
I have always thought that they should trim the three down to one film, that follows the book and shazam! have a fourth film!
Ditto.
Loved LOTR. Bailed after watching Hobbit #1 ONCE (and that was the non-extended version). After that, I had no interest in wasting my life watching any more of the thing.
Hobbit - I agree. I couldnt stand all the dizzy CG effects of swooping down, down, down in circles through the troll caves under the mountain. It seemed like there was 15 minutes of that scene. Definitely huge padding that added nothing to the story except to give viewers dizzy spells and a huge headache. It seems every movie nowadays has to show off their CG effects by a similar scene that adds nothing to the storyline.
Totally agree with your assessment. I couldn’t hardly stand to sit for the Hobbit films and I love JRR Tolkien and his books—esp. the Hobbit. Their casting didn’t help at all this time.
I loved the characters they picked for LOTR. Excellent cast, photography was gorgeous. Just fun to watch. Just some parts were a little boring and could have been cut a little better—but still excellent.
