A pair of Air Force F-15s, under the direction of North American Aerospace Defense Command, intercepted an unresponsive general aviation aircraft near the Palm Beach, Fla., area at approximately 7 p.m. EST.
The intercept required the Air Force F-15s from Homestead Air National Guard Base to travel at supersonic speeds, a sound noticed by area residents, to get to the general aviation aircraft where they were able to establish communications.
The intent of military intercepts is to have the identified aircraft re-establish communications with local FAA air traffic controllers and instruct the pilot to follow air traffic controllers instructions to land safely for follow-on action.

from Homestead, F-16s could intercept something around Palm Beach within 4-5 minutes from take off.
still seems too far away.
wherever POTUS regularly hangs out, there should be at least a few apache gunships stationed within 1-2 minutes to provide air cover and shoot down capability if needed.
Interesting, this weekend, for the first time, the FAA sent out this flight restriction thing the other day... to those of us who have our drones registered with the FAA as per the new requirements:

It's all Greek to me!
I have no idea why JimRob’s mind is sealed shut on this, but it is.
Apparently you are not aware of the nation wide ‘drill’/simulation fed into the FAA computers on 911 which created maximum confusion for the tracking of real targets ... agenda?
The whole idea is to emphasize their vigilance.
The Clinton Administration apparently with DOD backing took the US forces off of Ready Alert status, esp. fighters which is why there were no fighters at Andrews Air Force Base or Bolling Field in nearby Maryland, nor at the Glenn Martin NG base at Middle River east of Baltimore.
Jets had to come from far away Langley AFB in southern Virginia and arrived too late to do anything.
Not even a helicopter was armed at the Pentagon (I live a few miles away). Nobody was on the roof with AA missiles (Stingers, Blowpipes or peashooters).
While some stand down from nuclear alert was logical following the so-called collapse of the Soviet Union regarding B-52’s on constant airborne alert, there was absolutely no reason for THERE NOT TO BE A CONTINUAL ARMED FIGHTER AIRBORNE ALERT IN PRACTICE.
This is one of the Clinton Administration’s least know military downgrading scandals.
I got my information directly from a military person involved in that process, and he was not happy the way the Stand Down was planned or executed.
That is why 9/11 happened so successfully. NOT A DAMNED ARMED PLANE OUT OF BOSTON OR NEW YORK OR NEW JERSEY, PENNSYLVANIA, DELAWARE OR MARYLAND WAS OPERATIONAL.
I thought AF-1 had escorts.
Test is first thing I thought about too.
Woops, did I say that out loud? Leakers, they're everywhere nowadays...
It does. Minimum of 2. From hours ago:
In the meantime, the cost and frequency of Mr. Trumps trips to Palm Beach to spend time at his members-only Mar-a-Log club continues to come under a microscope on social media.

It needs to be policy NOW that every GA flight from DC and NY to FL keep their ears on or accept immediate and expensive visits at whatever flight level by Apaches or worse.
That’s what I heard also. Several concentric rings circling AF1.
Thanks, I remember reading the same. When you elect a president, you get the WHOLE PACKAGE, not just the parts you like - which is why electing someone with Clinton’s background was really, really, stupid. Same for Obama, of course, also. Hopefully those days are over, for a long time.
West Boynton here, I think I heard it too. Sounded like someone dropped 150 lbs of drywall on a driveway or something! Exciting times

So the sonic booms from F-15’s flying from Otis ANGB that morning were just a figment of my imagination then?
Good to know.
(By the way, I thought I knew the sound of an F-15 being flown in anger but I learned that morning that there’s a whole other level of fury that bird can unleash)
as a current pilot we get heads up each time the president is in the area.
That does not mean you read your TRF’s, (temporary flight restrictions).
Also even though you may fly in an area it does not mean you are monitoring each and every radio frequency.
That said, the pilot in question will have their ticket pulled and he or she may have to pay for the fuel those F-15s
used.
I live about 45 miles north of West Palm Beach.
When the President is in the area we have a whole passel of fighter jets and helicopter gun ships flying the area keeping an eye on things.
Easily. Off the shelf components and a good remote operator.
Cost of avgas these days limits recreational flying, I would think.
A couple of F-15 fighter jocks having a good time...legally.
Good for them.
Is that you, Harrison Ford?
