NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A total of 18 people were fired from one business after joining the nation-wide protest "A Day Without Immigrants."
Thousands of people participated in the movement across the country, including people in Middle Tennessee.
In Nolensville, nearly 20 employees at Bradley Coatings, Incorporated told their supervisors on Wednesday they'd be taking part as well. Then, on Thursday they were told they no longer had jobs.
"We are the team leaders directly under the supervisors and they informed us last night that we could not go back to work and the boss said we were fired," one employee told us.
The former employee asked to remain anonymous but had this message to his former boss.
"I would tell him he was unfair, after working for them for so many years, gave him our best. They could not understand that it was just one day. We were going to make up that day on a Sunday, but they didn't understand that, and it was not the best way. They didn't give us an opportunity and just told us we were fired," he said.
"Tennessee is an employment-at-will state which basically means an employer can end your employment at any time without reason or cause. Of course, there are a lot of different stipulations, civil rights issues that could stop them from doing that," Department of Labor and Workforce Development spokesman, Chris Cannon said.
Bradley Coatings, Inc.'s attorney released the following statement:
"Bradley Coatings, Incorporated (BCI) is a family-owned, Nashville-based business that provides commercial painting services to its clients on a very demanding schedule. Established in 1986, BCI has always celebrated diversity and supported the immigrant community. This past Wednesday night, certain employees of BCI informed their leadership that they would not be at work the following day. Because of the time-sensitive nature of the jobs these employees were assigned to, all employees were told that they would need to show up for work or they would be terminated. On Thursday, the majority of BCIs employees fulfilled their obligations to our clients, but eighteen employees did not. Regretfully, and consistent with its prior communication to all its employees, BCI had no choice but to terminate these individuals. The reason these employees missed workto engage in peaceful demonstrationshad nothing to do with BCIs decision to terminate them. BCI regrets this situation, but it has contracted with its clients to complete work on a schedule set by the clients general contractor. BCI will review its procedures in an effort to avoid similar issues in the future, and will continue to provide timely service to its clients and support to the Nashville immigrant community." - Robert Peal, Company Attorney
If the Beast had won the election, imagine the DOJ and the EEOC coming down hard on this business for not celebrating the diversity of these slackers enough.
Thank God that Trump won. Sanity may now prevail.
Did you hear the guy they interviewed? He didn’t speak one word of english and supposedly has worked there for years. Hell, most of the ones fired were very likely illegal.
Play Stoopid games, win Stoopid prizes ...
Winning..
Tomorrow morning they'll be out at the county applying for welfare, unemployment, food stamps, rent subsidies, energy chits, free legal, etc., plus free phones for dessert.
Ah, it's a wonderful life!

Apparently these people are legal immigrants or citizens. Trump has never said anything about deporting people who are here legally. Why would a citizen or legal immigrant chance losing their job in support of illegal aliens?
Donnelly does autocorrect mess up your typing, it also becauses your spoken text to get messed up.
I had to attend one of those about 20 years ago. I really pissed off one of the “teachers” when she was appalled I said if you open up your own business, you can hire any employee you want. She asked me, “So, since I’m Jewish, if I open up my own company and want to hire all Jewish people, that’s OK with you?” I said, “Absolutely - it’s YOUR business.” I thought her head was going to explode. But, hey, it was at a major TV production company, so what do you expect. I loved it!
Proud of my adopted home state of Tennessee.
There’s 18 new jobs created by Trump policies.
The employee’s account of what happened failed to mention that they were advised in advance that they would lose their jobs. The way the reporter relayed it - it sounded more like an ambush.
I actually expected greater participation. A colleague told me that it would be a massive demnstration that would make us wake up and take notice. She said that although she is fully American, if war broke out between the US and MExico, she would of course fight on the side of Mexico. She said we ought to realize that if war breaks out with Mexico, the drug cartels have more and better weapons than we do and they would win, that MExico would take back their land from the US (California?) if we try to build the wall - which is an act of agression against the people who make our way of life possible. This was a 30 year old college educated individual. She said some of this to me like she was kind of relishing breaking the bad news to me. As you can see, I haven’t quite come to terms with this entire conversation - particularly the part where she claims the full honor of being fully American (she is not undocumented) while explaining that her only recourse in the event of war with Mexico would naturally be to fight onthe side of mexico - -then she would be among those who would drive me out of California which I took from them???
Good! At least one brave boss!
They all should have been fired. But people are so afraid to offend the offensive!
She needs to study a little history of revolutions and invasions. Regardless of who “wins,” she’s going to be among the first to be lined up and shot. Nobody trusts a traitor, even if they’ve benefited from it.
Why don’t we start celebrating Excellence.
It can be from men, women, of any race, gay or straight, etc. But measure Success and Results and Progress, and the overall combination of those factors, Excellence!
It’s like the old philosophical questions: Who should sing Bass at the small towns Barbershop Quartet? The Black, the White, the Man, a woman, gay? straight> old? young?
Answer: The best bass singer!

How about a day without Illegal Immigrants? Out of the 18, how many are here legally. Perhaps the company needs better scrutiny of its hiring practices.
I agree. Surprise!
yep
“after all the years we worked there...”
but still can’t speak English???
Not very committed to the country that provides him with a good job -
[A day without rappers]
