That’s Entertainment! Trump’s 75-Minute Tour de Force
american spectator ^ | Scott McKay

Presidential press conferences will never be the same again.

Donald Trump, giving press conferences as president, is like a cross between Fidel Castro’s long-windedness and machismo and Christopher Walken’s theatrical presence — and nobody else in the room can compete with that.

This was on display Thursday, when after a week’s worth of his administration being buffeted by a hurricane of negative media coverage — some of it deserved, some much less so — the president turned himself loose in the East Room.

An hour and 15 minutes later, he walked out of what could be described as a smoldering ruin.

Trump touted his administration’s achievements and advertised major reforms on the way in health care and tax policy, hinted that he’ll have a new immigration/travel order next week to moot the judicial assault on his constitutional power by the Ninth Circuit, announced a new Labor Secretary nominee to replace Andy Puzder — Alex Acosta, who is (we learned) not related to CNN White House reporter Jim Acosta — and absolutely took the mainstream media to task for their snarling behavior since his inauguration. It was a freewheeling, wide-open, raucous barroom brawl of a presser, with Trump taking on every questioner with swagger and New York moxie — Ari Fleischer called it a “friendly hostility” — while pushing back against narrative after narrative.

Trump’s effectiveness in punishing the Democrat press for its feeding frenzy surrounding the Mike Flynn resignation could be seen by the reaction. Jake Tapper accused him of “whining.” Shepard Smith cast aside any pretense of — not objectivity, but composure. Chuck Todd screamed about his “delegitimization” of the press, calling it “un-American” and “not a laughing matter.”

Speaking of “queens”, Shep Smith had a meltdown yesterday - needs to be in a padded room. The anti-Trump bias is so bad, it’s leaking out of all his pores & making his makeup run. I’m tempted to send him a case of Depends & a Binky.

Agree! And people are finally noticing, as in, en masse. Today’s teens are the most conservative in 70 years! It’s like a miracle, yet it makes sense. The Left has become so foaming, spittle-flecked, barking moonbat crazy, that conservatism is the new counterculture.

Amazing.

I caught a glimpse of him directly after the President left the room yesterday, and the guy looked as if he was having a coronary. Thought to myself, yep, Trump knows what he’s doing!

...

They’ve seen the mess created by their parents and grandparents. Plus they have an alternate source of information with the Internet.

The kids even prefer skiing again over snowboarding. Everybody is getting a Reagan re-education except its better this time. The twitter stream direct from the President to me is a game changer.

At your next watch party, keep an eye on Major’s face. He has his mouth hanging open for a few seconds. Priceless. He can’t believe what he’s hearing. He’s never been talked to like that before.

Because he hangs with the media lib crowd, they mock Trump at their cocktail parties. Getting a tongue lashing instead of an apology from Trump has got to make them even madder. Their news reports can easily be mistaken for SNL skits.

I saw a cut to him at Spicer’s first Press Conference. He looked and acted like he owned the effing place. He and that PBR B!tch Mara Liarson sat together. Both of them thought they were that old bag Helen whatshername or something.

If I ever saw that Garrett in public and met him face to face it would take all I could muster to keep from busting him in the face.

The MSN are his enemy. That is exactly how he should treat them. He should debate them and eviscerate them, not meekly answer their questions.

When he pointed out that they totally covered up the corruption that went on during the debate when Hillary was handed the questions beforehand, I literally stood up and cheered.

And he correctly (and humorously} pointed out that they would have condemned him to the electric chair had he done the same thing.

It was a magnificent thing to watch - truly a tour de force!

I interpreted a little bit differently. At least this time, Major Garrett was respectful, calling Trump "Mr. President" and "Sir" which other reporters did not do.

Here's the question and response at the 54:00 minute mark when Garrett asked his question.

Now Trump interrupted him knowing exactly where the question was going? And the answer he gave was a high point of the press conference.

Trump explained how he was going to keep military matters secret and how the press was trying to kill the opportunity for Russia and America to work together for peace.

Very honest, deeply insightful explanation of his policy thinking and understanding of Putin's probable thinking.

Effectively Garrett got more of an answer than he could have asked for. And perhaps no President has ever given so honest an answer to such a delicate subject.

The idiot and dishonest LSM keeps throwing down gauntlets and he keeps picking them up and bitch-slapping them with their own choice of weapons.

He has spent his whole life jousting with the NY Press corps, union bosses and politicians. He knows how to handle them and shows it.

He's been in politics before. Just not the elective kind.

I describe what happened the last week as thus:

The MSM tried to attack Trump with the equivalents of a Civil War-era cannon. Trump fired back during the news conference with the equivalent of the M65 cannon (aka Atomic Annie) with the same atomic cannon shell used on the Upshot-Knothole "Grable" test. The MSM is still reeling from what Trump did.

The comparison to Christopher Walken is spot-on. Wish I’d thought of it.

Any of these press dandies want to step outside to talk about it - there’s a line of angry Deplorables just waiting to “explain” things to them...

No I did not see him with Liason...

Garrett is a tough reporter, but I think he’s fair. In fact, he told the press corps that they should not boycott the WH Correspondent’s dinner.
