First Shift: CEOs ask Trump to review mpg rule
(Excerpt) Read more at autonews.com ...
In a way it is a good thing. I drive a 2001 Camry V6. I could afford a new Camry but why? How much different is a 2001 Camry from a 2017 style wise? Not much. I don't care about technology. Actually I appreciate the simplicity of the 2001 so I keep it.
The blandness saves me money.
Yeah, I can tell those apart at a glance. But a couple years later and the Mustang got a lot more generic. Thank you, Bunkie Knudsen.
Then you have the plethora of GM muscle cars which all look alike because they’re basically the same car. Do tell me how you can tell all the different 68-74 A-body muscle cars apart at a quick fleeting glance with no badges? Good luck with that.
A lower belt line would help the style greatly. The way I understand it the high belt line is not mandatory.
The SS Chevelle.
The forums I’m on as well as JLR’s own sales numbers and focus groups do. A couple years ago, JLR only managed to sell 15K or so cars here - it got that bad. They’ve improved since but by JLR’s own admissions most of the sales is due to first-time-Jag-buyers buying their new products, not repeat business.
So by JLR’s own admission, that’s what happened.
Agreed. I know a today’s large engine mini-van can outperform my ‘68 Mustang 289 resto-rod.
That said, it’s really about the way it makes me feel when I’m cruising down the road, in a piece of industrial art, with the sound of the dual exhaust of the 289 (with cam).
I can tell every car made in the 1960’s from each other. After 1972 I don’t care because after that cars sucked.
Hate to tell you, but you should probably go look at the video game industry’s statistics. Adults do play video games in vast numbers and we’re not talking about Generation Snowflake adults either.
Classic look with modern technology.
I would like to see the CJ style come back. Again with modern insides.
And that’s fine, honestly. It’s the “oooh, cars were so much better and faster and way more awesome back then” rose-tinted-spectacles thing that needs to be taken out back and shot. No, old cars were generally not. I’ve had to check my own calibration on that several times over the years, as cars improve.
Wait until Trump slashes the CAFE standards. Imagine a Challenger on a new smaller platform with a Hellcat/Demon engine. Perhaps that's what we'll see in 2019.
Here are 4 2008 cars from 4 DIFFERENT manufactures. Can you tell the difference?
Yes, of course. I'm talking about 2014 and after. Jaguar's F-Type is not pissing off core Jag fans.
Yup. In order from left to right: Toyota Corolla, Subaru Impreza, Nissan Sentra, Mazda 3, Honda Civic.
LOL.
It’s kinda funny. When I get over 70 mph in the old Mustang, I feel like I’m “sitting on a bubble”, where it wouldn’t take much to be heading for the weeds, and I’m being passed by soccer moms in their SUV’s doing 80.
Sorry, strike the Sentra. No idea why I typed that in there, especially as there are clearly just four cars and none of them are Nissans. :P
There is not a niches bit of difference in the style of any of those cars. Look at them objectively. Boring as hell. I could fall asleep looking at those beveled bland-bots.
On the other hand, this is my 'Sunday driver':
