The Oroville Dam is the highest in the nation.
Is it live or taped? There’s a no-fly zone.
If that one is the same as this one,

you can see a chunk of the hill to the right eroded away... A swath 3x the width of the original concrete spillway.

I checked thw NWS site; flash flood warning :
When the lake water level gets this high, the emergency spillway structure has, in effect, become a dam holding part of the lake back. I think I read that it is holding back about 30 feet of water — NOT GOOD if it collapses.
Look at it with Google Earth...shows the problem. IF the spillway gets breeched the dam is useless. ALL the water will go around the dam through the failed spillway. The dam will be there holding back nothing but air.
Yup, just saw a report and the water is running AROUND the outside of the dam.
Been out few hours...catching up, yikes.
.
The native geology there is mostly soft limestone.
It is garbage.
This is a 100% Democrat-owned disaster - CNN is forbidden to mention it.
Similar - but I think I was on the thread yesterday and it just had the spillway hole and through the hole it was on rock. And then these newest videos with the water gushing around that rock through the soil.
This video gives a better reference to the distance to the toe of the dam. I don’t think there is any risk of the toe washing out - that’s a pretty long ways. On other videos where it shows the broad spillway to the left of this one that is washed out - that sure is gushing. I hope that one doesn’t get undermined and fail.
What a mess. Hopefully they can keep the mess up at the dam and prevent major flooding downstream.
I guess there’s a no-fly zone because the drones taping are too easy to run over by GA.
FReepers are saying the CA MenSeekingMen, along with national, aren’t talking about this. No mention of it on the grammies, either. I’m just watching for the political antics, pop music has been unlistenable to me for ten years.
Just saw a video on the weather channel. It looks like water is getting under parts of the emergency spillway on the left side. Not good.
Happy to hear they came to their senses.
This view shows more... H/t maggief

A swath 3x the width of the spillway (the one that had the sinkhole in it) has been cut by the water overflow.
It’s to the right, toward the dam.
You can see big @$$ chunks of concrete tumbling down the original spillway..
Where’s Jesse? There’s a whole lot of water there, but it’s his world! :)
All joking aside, prayers up for NoCal, especially for our FReeper friends who are affected by this calamity there.
that would be the emergency spillway working
