A Chinese man who was trapped in India for more than 50 years has finally been reunited with his family.
The BBC had reported how Wang Qi, an army surveyor who says he accidentally crossed into India in 1963, had not been given the necessary documents to leave the country.
Following the report, he was visited by Chinese diplomats, who told him efforts were being made to take him back. Mr Wang was met by family members when his flight landed in Beijing.
Later, in his home city of Xianyang, crowds met him with banners reading "Welcome home, soldier, it's been a rough journey". Mr Wang flew out from Delhi on Friday night accompanied by his adult children.
Chinese officials took him and his family shopping in a Delhi mall before they boarded the flight.

I really hate it when a Wang gets trapped.
Yep. It was just an accident that had nothing to do with the fact that the ChiComs were stirring up trouble everywhere in Asia.
It was a probe.
He got caught.
I once worked with a Chinese guy who grew up in Calcutta. Strangest English accent I have ever heard
If he is a surveyor, how did he get lost and cross an international border?
Looks like China got its Wang out of India.
“Instead he worked at a flour mill, eventually marrying a local woman and raising a family. Neighbours said they lived in “utter poverty”.
Chinese officials took him and his family shopping in a Delhi mall before they boarded the flight.”
Sounds like he may have needed it.
Strangest I’ve ever heard was Vietnamese boat people who had learned English in Alabama. A woman who once cut my hair was one of them. It was fun to listen to her, but you really had to focus to pull the meaning out of it. There was always the looming threat of it starting to sound like authentic southern backcountry gibberish if you weren’t paying very close attention.
Maybe since I’m an American, I find it hard to understand how he could be prevented from leaving for 50 years, in spite of not being in prison. Are all of the Indian borders really so tightly guarded? I’m impressed. At least he was not alone during this whole time.
Did his family ever visit him in India?
or something like that.
I’ll bet he won’t be going to any Hookah Lounges in the near
Future!
What kept him in? Do they have a WALL?
The guy's holding a picture of his wife(?). In the US, there was that 70 year old guy robbing a bank to get into prison to get away from his wife.
Correlation?
I don’t think Wang was the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Reminds me of the “last” Japanese soldier holed-up on some deserted Pacific island (till 1975!) who didn’t get word that they lost the war in 1945. He was still defending the island all by himself 30 years later!
my guess is he got lost and then did not want to return out of fear that he would be shot for desertion. but it is just a guess
According to my H.S. friend surnamed Wang, it's pronounced like Wong. To sum up: if Wang is Wong, then Wong must be wight.
What? no Confucius quotes??
